we should just collect the money and donate it to some charity from the "waiting to become" immigrant community. There is GALA in DC from cancer society..that's a good place to get started.

The idea is to get noticed in a positive way.

That is a good suggestion ..or taking a cue from the president's call for volunteering in your community..make a pledge to voluteer a few hours in your community and send ;etter to the president with your story and saga..

I was here to witness july-07 visa bulletin, what do you know. You registered this month, and you are telling me that toothless aila stood-up for us because you googled some document which was drafted after the fact? ha, big joke, but its not funny. What I saw on various forums was, aila had already threatened a lawsuit, so they were not being invited and consulted by the administration. aila was immature in declaring lawsuit, which they did not file and which they did not have a legal ground to win. So don't throw a pdf at me now, making me believe what aila did for me, because the fact is it didn't. aila represents 1 and only 1 interest, and that is the interest of immigration lawyers. It doesn't represent the interest of immigrants, but IMMIGRATION LAWYERS. There is a difference, unless you are some immigration lawyer disguising as EB immigrant. aila don't care if we wait for years and they don't care how worried we are, because aila is in the business of representing the interest of its members i.e. immigration lawyers. When we are living through sleepless nights, immigration lawyers get a full good night sleep every night, trust me on this one. I don't know anyone who could tell me that his/her immigration attorney also is living sleepless nights because of the long pending application of his clients. So don't throw some obscure pdf at me to win my trust for aila because I know better than that. Lawyers make more money when the clients are scared and worried. So don't ever doubt my common sense when telling me that the guy who partner with the employer to delay my green card application is working on my behalf. That's that.

You got any better ideas other than piggy back riding on somebody's horse (read AILA, housing association, car sellers assoc etc) to Washington? If you do then stop ranting and present some ideas here. You are not the only one frustrated and keep that to yourself. You do not know who I am and I don't know who you are, so stop judging and present something. Let critics follow.

Rather than donating to some charity donate it to IV and spend on lobbyists. They are the only way to change laws. All these polished speeches, presenting some girl from SC etc is to appease American people. If anything ever happens in DC, it is by lobbyists/ donations to election campaigns etc.

Everybody knows our cause is not justified in eyes of American people. The more you publicise it the worse it will get (rememeber h1b publicity last year and audits now?)They do not want immigrants here, period. Donating to charities will earn nothing. Look at banks, credit card companies, other corporations, etc and see how they get laws favorable to them passed. Even if it is not in interest of people, credit card companies always had laws in favor to them until they over did it. So lets learn something from them.

Apparently, doing something is always better than doing nothing at all. So, I do support the idea.
However, could you explain how this pizza movement is going to help resolve the situation? Because, helping Pizza Hut or Dominos is not going to help us get the Green Card soon.

This country is in a deep recession, and every lawmakers high priority is to solve the current crisis. Any effort related to immigration or any non economic issue will have a lot of opposition in the house or senate, due to the growing unemployment rate.

Do you know why people like congresswoman Zoe Lofgren are not focusing on immigration issues nowadays? Because, they know those effort would not work out in such a bad economy.

I like the Food Drive idea over Pizza Movement, because, worst case we will have some personal satisfaction for helping the needy.

Form small teams who will start interacting with men who matter...make a roadmap among themselves and start discussions or convince the men who matter that its high time we get things moving

I am willing to be part of a team/core group that will escalate it to the concerned people rather than taking of flowers/bhelpooreee etc etc....

Ha Ha. LOL ......When last week a donation campaign was started by GCCovet, Akhilmahajan and others for IV , we collected $1852.00 in two and half weeks. Do you really think people will donate anything to some charity, when they can't even shell $20 for IV, who we all know can work and work with lobbyists in DC.

That is shameful for all desis (including me). That will not even foot bill for single lobbyist to stay in washington for a day. Leave alone their fees etc. We struggle here for green cards, spend zillions in eating out, buying latest phones, latest cars etc but always fall behind in contributing to IV.

Sanjay this also reflects lack of advertisements and convincing on part of IV. We here need better websites (look at AHA, St. Jude childrens hospital for example) better training material for IV folks to spread IV word. I would love to talk to my friends but I still do not have that convincing power, and some reading material, some brochures on websites etc will help. This organization surely needs more professional look.

This was my idea inspired by many like me in our IV and other forums who would like to do something. And I did read all posts so far and its very thrilling to note that many will support the motivation (pizza is a symbolic thing). I am very close to agreeing on a food drive to feed a shelter home (organization), BUT not without notice. We must make sure it doesnt go down the drain.
I would also request everyone to come up with refining the idea instead of just criticizing the idea or going fully anti. Your help is always needed in doing things positively.

I think this is a good idea, It could be pizza or any other form of food
Here is a website which lists different homeless shelters in different states around the country

What we need to do?

1. Volunteers in each state/city speak to the homeless shelters and ask what kind of donations do they accept?
2. If they accept food, is there a local food store they prefer?
3.How do they organize food drives?
4. Identify PR points of contacts in those areas and see if there is any way we can get their attention.
5. Keep the message simple

At the end of it if we think this will help in anyway we can make a drive out of it.

Another idea could be to send cards with a donation of 10$ to president's fund or some federal agency may be FEMA or whatever but the impact has to be big

if we have 30k people sending in 10$ to a single fund it will help in retaining jobs for atleast 5-10 people in this economy at the same time give some earnings to the USPS as well. The issue is would people donate 10$ to a stranger agency?

The reason why the flower campaign was successful was not because of flowers but because it was associated with a great man- Mahatma Gandhi.

There was also some novelty in the concept. We cannot expect to repeat it and get same results. Sending pizza will make a mockery of the Gandhi protest in my opinion. You can choose to differ.
