Well all the Flyers are really great, but it will not make sense if we do not distribute them. If all of distrubute the flyers on same day that would create a big public awareness. If someone can organize the date that is great.

Everyone has a busy life and might not have time to distribute them or feel shy distributing flyers, so I suggest to just print and leave the flyers on the car wind sheilds in parking lots. If every member can put the flyers on 30 cars at their office location/public parking lot/train station parking lot that would be a good advertisement of the issues at hand. Distributing these flyers should not take more than 10 mins of time for 30 - 50 cars and everyone can get some excersise walking around there office/public parking lot.

Folks, these flyers seek to articulate the desperation that many of us face in the current process. We keep reading about 100's of folks that are impacted. Yet, not more than 2 or 3 have committed to using these flyers?

I am not looking for statistical validation of efficacy. Just throwing out a thought that the arcane world of EB2, EB3, PD, EAD, etc are totally 'alien' to those outside the process. i.e., US citizens whose voice matters MOST in reaching out to THEIR lawmakers. For those who have been through the process and are on the 'other side', they couldnt care less about these, now that they are out of the clutches! (Its like asking someone to go back into solitary confinement!)

Influencing public policy and law making is a lengthy process of awareness, communication and education. Each small steps goes towards framing specific interests within the framework of larger interests.

So, please do take a minute, pick one, pick a few, or pick all the flyers that resonate with your underlying frustration, feeling and need that you need to communicate. And go to town with it.

Mutual empathy within the IV BBoards doesnt go too far, does it?

Admins, please post 'quick links' to these PDFs from the Home Page/ other landing page. This would help folks quickly read and print out these 8 different messages. Having them embedded within a post could make them hard to find and use.

If I may suggest, can you also find a way to get these to lawmakers' offices? Reality is that Indian stores' audience are those that share the pain, not the solution to the pain. The lawmakers' offices are staffed with policy analysts that go through this kind of stuff and help formulate various positions/ solutions that address the pain.

As someone with a public policy background, I can attest to the strengths of INFORMED public policy. Please folks, do have these messages go FAR and WIDE, not just NARROW and DEEP within ethnic communities impacted by current immigration issues.

But again, thanks for the Indian store initiative. It makes my day

Let *mail these out* to *all lawmakers* in the next 1 week. It takes 5 minutes to print the PDFs, 5 minutes to stuff 'em envelopes and a grand total of $2.50 to mail to your respective lawmakers' offices.

Sure we can *all* spare 10 minutes TODAY to get this done!

The jargon used in the flyers like EB and 485, etc, are foreign (no pun intended) to all Americans, including lawmakers (yes, they should know all this, but don't be surprised if they don't). We should make a very simplistic plain English version that the casual American and lawmaker can understand a lot better. There can be a link for more detailed/technical info like the flyer you have here. The hope is to "tug at the heart strings" a little, if you will, in the hopes of getting more Americans and lawmakers to take up the cause. There's lots of sad stories on IV, we can share these with the broader public.

Some ideas - With all the debate about illegal immigration dominating the news today, don't forget about the LEGAL immigrants who wait years, get separated from family, locked into grueling jobs for low pay, etc.

LEGAL immigrants who speak English, pay taxes, follow the LAW are stuck in limbo, can't see their families, who's spouses are barred from working, whose kids who are here legally can't get student loans or even work at McDonalds. Rather than break the law and live in the underground, these LEGAL immigrants out their lives on hold. etc

Followed by a "Did you know.." bullet list showing some of the hardships EBs go through. I'm not a good writer, so I can't make this sound as compelling as I'd like. What does everyone think?


We should emphasize the word LEGAL as much as possible, and intimate that making LEGAL immigration more sensible and easier, there would be LESS ILLEGALs in this country, and the country would have more control over who's coming and going, which is good for national security. Did you ever think that the reason that there are so many ILLEGALS here is thats its nearly impossible to come here LEGALLY! If American's realized that, then perhaps we could start changing some minds out there. Most American's have no clue about the immigration process. They think it's a snap to get into this country because maybe they know one or two immigrants in their lives. We have to reveal the truth.

hi, thanks for your thoughts. Aliens and Fruits of Labor has less arcane information... and more narratives around personal pain points. Let me know if you have other specific examples of pain points (kind of cause:effect situation) and I can try to whip out one more theme-based flyer.

I keep the printouts in my car and every where I park in a parking lot, I keep one printout on the car next to me.

Well onething is sure, most of the people who visit this site are
Lazy
or
Shy

They need to remember if they cannot help themselves no one will.

No job is permanent, they need to get a GC to secure their future.
