I applied for my wife's EAD and AP by paper filing on 04/17/2012, today (05/18/2012) we received the combo card which is dated 05/12/12 expires 05/11/13. Her EAD card expires on 08/14/2012 - from our point of view we just got a 9 month card.

Any suggestions what to do. This is very frustrating.

I called customer service and was told that the officer determines the validity of the card, if he has given it for that period then there is nothing he can do about it. Then he went ahead and asked me if she has a I485 pending, I said yes and he was looks like your Green card will come before your EAD card expires and thats why they issues a 1 year card. I then told him that it would take 17 years to get my green card. After insisting he very reluctantly filed a case and gave me a confirmation no.


Any suggestions what to do. This is very frustrating.

Your's is the first case of 2 yr EAD+AP combo card one I have come across. I am glad you are good for atleast 2 yrs now.

Yes! we finally got our AP documents.

Here is what I would suggests, open up an Expedited service request with USCIS, send relevant evidence with a cover letter in a day, contact your local senator's office, give them your case info and explain in detail what would happ if you do not get the document on time. Emphasis on emergency and financial loss.

In our case, senator's office did really help. They initiated their process as soon as we faxed them all the documents, they followed it up twice a day and kept us posted until it was assigned, reviewed and mailed. Not only that, they kept checking until we got it in our hands. We were also assured that they would do their best to get our travel document before our travel date which is day after tomorrow.

I hope the rest of you would get your's soon.
