Default How much time it takes to prepare for I140 application?

Can someone please share how much time (work) needs to prepare to I140 application? My employer said they will let me know once my I140 is submitted. I have not got any update on that. Before bugging I want to check how much time it takes to prepare the application for I140.

I would be thankful for your suggestions.

Thanks.

If you have given all docs from your side then it should not take more than month. Form it self is simple and need only ability to pay documents from ur company with job letter etc..

but all those can be done with in month. Mine was submitted after month I got labor approved.

Default 3 Weeks

When my employer filed, they took 3 weeks. I guess it depends on lawyer and employer, and all the documents should be there.

A) If your company has applied I140 for other employees earlier, then they should have all the required docs for 'ability-to-pay'. If not then it may take somewhere between a week to month to prepare the docs. If the financial state of the company is really in bad shape, then it is completely a different story.

B) From your side you need to provide employment/experience letters, which is difficult in some cases. Generally employers don't mention the technology in the experience letters and candidates get letters from their colleague. Sometimes colleagues may go unreachable or may not want to sign anything. Those cases take sometime, because we need to catch hold of ex-colleague and then we need to educate them that they are only signing a letter that states truth, and that letter is also a secondary evidence to company provided letter, which is missing technologies.

You don't have control on (A); your employer has to do it. You can get (B) done well in advance even before starting the PERM.

Some employer may want to drag the GC and will file the applications just as close to deadline. So you may want to check with your employer about the progress every week if possible.
