Legality of working as independent contractor on F1 OPT

I received 1099 misc for the time I was on OPT (with EAD for 1 year) after my F1 in 2004. Will this considered "unauthorized employment" when I file by 485 application. Has anyone done this ? Please let me know your thoughts if you are in a similar situation or have some idea about this. thanks!
