USCIS says they don't provide detailed status on 485 anymore.

I called USCIS(11:15 AM PST)using the following procedure(taken from another thread).

The office told me that they are not providing status about whether an officer has been assigned to the case or not. They don't tell Name check status either. He suggested that I can call FBI if I want to know the name check status.

All they will tell is that the application is pending whether and Office is assigned to the application or not..


Did anybody have similar experience?


Call up using this sequence and ask if your NC has been cleared:
Call 1-800-375-5283
Press 1
Press 2
Press 2
Press 6
Press 1
Now enter your receipt number
press 1
press 1 (now listen to the case update info)
press 3
press 4
(now if you listen a male voice prompting you to hold the call that means the call is going to IOs desk, if it says no IO is available, it will redirect it to NSC, you can hang up and try the next morning) __________________

Got a similar response yesterday (after a 1hr wait!). Infact, she was quite curt in informing me that IOs are there to respond to problems/issues with a filing and not for providing status updates or name check information.

I called NSC and the CSR just didnt share any information!!! Would taking infopass appointment help?

I had the same experience thrice from Aug 01 to Aug 04. They did tell me that my case is not yet assigned to an officer but stated that they are not allowed to share any name check status or results. They even refused to verify my priority date.

I guess based on the volume, soon IOs at InfoPass will also start doing the same thing...or they may opt to make the Name check information transperent.

I had the same experience yesterday. She told me they are not allowed to give any status update.

I would recommend taking INFOPASS to be absolutely sure. Select an early morining appt. You will be done in five minutes. The DHS office is only a couple of blocks away from work. I was back in my seat in 15 mins flat after a 8.30 a.m INFOPASS appointment.

One fine day, people may receive the same response from infopass IO and should not be surprised.

My friend went to Infopass yesterday in Baltimore, MD and he got the same response that they are there to solve your case issue/problem but not to provide status on your case. He bluntly told him to go to USCIS site and check your status.

How do we know if our case is stuck in NC or not.
Not very helpful.

Can someone post how do we contact the FBI to find out if the case has cleared NC or not?

I have an IO appointment tomorrow so fingers crossed.
