Exclamation New to this forum, need help in understanding jargons

Dear friends,
I am new to this forum and country. I came here on H1 and working for a prestigious organization.

I met a desi during coffee break and was brain washed to apply for Green card immediately. I have been hearing about so many jargons like I-797, Retrogation, I-485, I-140, Lyabor, I-94 etc and have been bogged down with this.

I have no idea where to start and not sure how to approach my manager or HR to request green card. They say that there is a internal queue in my company and may take years.. some people even advised me to apply for Canadian green card in parallel.

Any links to understand the basics would be of great help. I'm tensed and nervous after speaking to the collegue.. I was told that it is taking long time to get GC and need to have alternatives..

Please advise.

Regards
Nooku

You have nothing to worry speak with your manager/HR and if they start the process it will continue and one fine day it will end.

If you friends are scaring you and was waiting for long time...then ask them to join this forum (if they are not a member before) and volunteer to make the difference.

Angry few more doubts on green card

The biggest doubt I have is, if my green card process will be faster because I'm from extremely premier institution back home ( both bachelors and masters degree) and have been extremely good acadamically and working for a very reputed company in USA. In short, will I given preference over others because of all the things I have unlike other people?

Can I mention and attach all the award certificates I have so far to the green card application and get it very fast as compared to other people? I donot want to wait for ever in the line.

I also have lot of pressure from my wife's side to get green card fast. Please let me know.

thank you
Nooku

Default Premier

institute won't get your green card faster unless you fall into EB1 category (refer categories below). Also there no special category for the kind of company you work other than having good attorney which may avoid slower or mistakes in the process.

i) EB1: employee with extraordinary ability in the science, arts, education, business or athletics, professors, researchers and Ph.D. holders etc. falls under this category.
It also includes people working in US as managers and executives on international transfer basis (Company transfer L1 holder)

(ii) EB2: This includes employee with extra ability in the field of science, arts or business, and advanced degree professionals (PG. degree holder).

(iii) EB3: This includes professionals with Bachelor/ Graduate degree, and other skilled workers.

Keep in mind that Employer based GC is for the position in your company and it all up to your company to file your GC.

Tell your spouse that nothing you can do (other than asking your company) on GC and it is your company which has to do and based on your country of birth the you may get it faster or slower or never get it.

If you feel based on your country of origin your process will be delayed for several years you better join with us to get some relief.
