EAD expiring 9/19/08, what to do?

My friends request for FP notice was lost last year and after calling USCIS many times finally received recheduling docs in July and new FP request for Aug 27, 2008. Her EAD was approved but the card is only valid from 9/20/07 till 09/19/08. Can it be corrected by calling USCIS or should she just apply for a renewal even though its late?
