H1 transfer in 6th year - Please advise

Hi,
Here is my situation:

labor cleared: EB3, Priority date Jan 2002
I-140 cleared
I485 not applied as priority date is not current

Just entered my 6th year of H1B - H1B 6th year expires Oct 30 2007.

If I stay with my current employer, they will apply for a 3yr extension in May2007 ( 6 months prior to H1B expiry ).

If I lose my job before I get the 3yr extension from my current company, Can I join a new company and get a 3yr extension from them based on my approved 140 ? Is this possible only if the new company files for the extension before my current company revokes my 140 ?

Will the new company have the option of applying for the 3yr extension immediately or can it only apply within the 6 months period prior to current H1B expiry ? [ie, if i lose my job tomorrow, will the new company have to wait until May 2007 to file for my 3 yr extension? this will give enough time for my current employer to revoke my 140 !!]

I would appreciate your inputs.
