Maybe we can go to a federal court saying it is discriminatory and get a ruling to that effect. This would stop "any" state from coming up with such legislation.

Mahatma Gandhi, bless his soul, had the balls to stand up and fight back. On the other hand, majority of our community live in the fear of their own shadows. We should stop comparing our sorry selves to that great man when we lack an atom of the courage he had.

We don't want to goto DC Rally in March as it's too cold. Summer is too hot and in the spring we have family vacations planned. We deserve the punishment we are receiving for our inaction.

Isn't it something similar that happened when Gandhiji was thrown out of a train is South Africa. Gandhi was discriminated based on his color. We are being discriminated on immigration status for our right to work.

EAD document - at least that's how it is in GA. The license will be valid till your EAD expiration date.
Also, in GA, if you are not a Citizen or a Permanent resident, you cannot renew our license online.

ACLU site is a good one. It has tips on how to campaign, how to write letters to your representative etc

Browsing this site would be quite useful for IV members. Maybe IV should have something similar on this site.

OK I double checked the new license. Even though the Expiry is 2014, it does have in red "Temporary Visitor Status Expires: 09/09"

This should not impact legal immigrants. Legal immigrants always will have some valid documents like Visa or I94 or EAD. So what is the problem in this? The point number 2 may create some issues but generally none of H1b people will be impacted.

Texas change in driver’s license laws in last 6 months:
1) We knew that instead of the usual 6 years expiry date, they now want to see proof of visa documents and the expiry date is set to the expiry of the visa document.

Driver’s license laws - Latest Changes:
1) The driver’s license that all non-citizens will get will be Vertical and NOT the usual horizontal. This license looks very different than the conventional Texas DL and it also has to ominous word “temporary visitor”. I was okay with word being mentioned, but making the drivers license look so different from normal (vertical and not horizontal is taking it too far). I am worried about possible discrimination everywhere wherein we show our IDs.
2) Chance of Address not possible online: Previously, its only during license renewal, you had to get that new unique non-citizen card. Now, they are not allowing even change of address online! The website says, we don’t qualify for change of address online as well. This means that even for change of address, we have to go to the DL office and surrender of our old good unexpired DLs.

Any inputs? Texans? Others? What have been your experiences? In other states, can you change your address online without any hassle?

People who are living illegally will keep driving with a fake or no license and no insurance. But legals will be segregated like this! Nice.
