This is what I think is happening.
USCIS/DOL system is getting sophisticated day by day. I am positive that they must have some triggers in the system that will automatically notify Immigration Officers about suspicious activity.
Now a day’s USCIS is trying to deny as many cases as possible. So, they don’t want to miss any opportunity to deny or investigate your case.
It is not pre adjudication process. It is aggressive denials.

After reading all these, got curious and checked status of my cases online after a year. I got a soft lud on my, my wife & son's case on 02/25. Something is definitely happening.

Sorry for being ignorant. How can we determine LUD (last update date) and what is meant my soft LUD ?

You can check status of your case on line:

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp

It will show you "Last Updated Date". Soft LUD means status of case is not changed but they updated LUD, virtually means they touched your file.

I checked the online status of our 485 application after long time..i totally lost hope on our 485 applications that USCIS ever bothered to work on them..but strange thing is i have noticed a soft LUD on my wifes case..this gives me some hope..

Our cases are with NSC. EB2. PD: Mar -06
i responded to RFE last year. then case processing resumed.

We saw LUD on all 3 cases on Friday. I called up IO at NSC and she told that
LUD was because they applied biometrics to your cases. I told her i did not get 2nd FP
notice ,we did not give any FPs. She said they have our new FPs in the system and applied
the same.

i am not sure what she is talking about???

One possible reason could be, they might have reused our FPs given during EAD renewals few months back. But does it make sense to anyone? did anyone face the same experience?

Nope, still waiting for I-140. Opened a ticket with both local congressman and USCIS.
CM replied saying "file is with manager for review".....whatever that means...

I hate to be the one to throw cold water on this - i dont believe its anything worth writing home about - I dont believe its really "pre-adjudication" for something exciting looming but IOs finally reaching the backlog of cases which they are supposed to as normal course of action to varify all the information pertaining to each case is correct and issue RFEs for missing bits. Dont forget last year they were all diverted to GC2Citizen cases because of voting bank pressure and coupled with July 2007 filers there was a huge backlog of cases just left pending.

Generally Numbers dont lie (except Satyam) and I havent heard anything in Congress that may be remotely close to passing that may change the landscape for EB folks and therefore am guessing that they have not really been intimated on any urgent action to be done within next few months for something looming.

Who knows, maybe Obama is preparing for CIR 2009 now. Before CIR he maybe planning to push all legal EB cases. Remember July 2007 fiasco happened in the backdrop of CIR 2007.

My guess is , The new president appears to be strict. So his question to the department very soon will be "What the heck you've been doing with all these cases not touched so far. So they want to do their part even before the big boss asks them. So that way the only issue will be lack of numbers, else everything is ready and look, we did our job. We're very efficient
