Default Vaccinations for feeding mom

Based on the December 2011 VB, I will be current (EB2, PD- 03/11/2008). I have a question regarding medical exam. My wife is currently breast feeding and hence wanted to know if she has to take all the vaccines or are there any exemptions?

I was reading in other forums which says except MMR, all vaccines are safe and are given during exam. Is it ok not to take MMR? Will there be any RFE or queries later ? Do I need to provide any medical document from OB/GYN saying that my spouse is feeding ? Will it delay the GC processing ?

Has anyone faced this situation ? Were there any issues ? Please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
To get the blanket waiver the following vaccines are mandatory.
Tdap usually given in the hospital to the mom after the delivery.
This is for the whooping cough.
Varicealla --get a titer test whether the anti bodies present or not.if present no need
To take the vaccination.99 % of Indians will have anti bodies present.
MMR-- it is safe for a nursing mom. Your baby will have her first shot of MMR at 12 months
My wife is also a nursing mom and had the MMR shot. It's safe .
If any of the above three are missing ,then the vaccination chart is considered
as incomplete and uscis will not accept the I693 form.
Nursing mom can not be considered as a contraindication condition.
Hope this helps.
Good luck

Default Info from CDC...

I am in the same boat.

Looks like CDC has published some guidelines...

Breastfeeding: Recommendations: Vaccinations | DNPAO | CDC

To be on the safe side, I am going to check with my PCP...

Expecting mom is a contraindication condition.uscis will accept the form and will send
Rfe to get the vaccinations done at a later date. Once you submitted, your wife will get the green card later and this will not stop you from getting your green card.
Good luck

My PD is 07Mar2008 and my wife is also currently nursing my 3-week old son. I did a google search and found that MMR vaccine is mostly fine for nursing moms(there was only 1 bad case so far). The majority opinion is that it is safe. Of course, it is best to take a decision after contacting the doctor, Ob/Gyn and Pediatrician.

I am current in November, my wife is also nursing 12 weeks old. I contacted Pediatrician and also, my wife's OBGYN. Both confirmed it is safe to have nursing mom vaccinated with Varicella and MMR.

Also, we took our vaccinations at Department of Health, I asked them about the TITER test for Varicella. But, they said that USCIS is not accepting TITER test results anymore. I am not sure about the credibility of that statement.

Many thanks Salauddin. What about EAD? Would the RFE interfere with EAD issuance? She is on H4 currently which is valid till 2013.

Thanks for the reply sunilps03.
Can you update the list of vaccinations taken by your wife?
I will ask our doctor to take a look at them as well.

By the way, for MMR and Varicella, doctor just took the blood samples to check anti-bodies and that's it. No shot was given for these two.

Following vaccinations are 'required' as per USCIS:

Mumps
Measles
Rubella
Polio
Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
Pertussis
Haemophilus influenzae type B
Hepatitis B

According to our baby's pediatrician, all of them are safe for a nursing mom.
