I had applied for EAD extension through my attorney late last month. My EAD was valid until August of 2009. I was expecting the EAD to be extended until August of 2011 but to my total surprise the EAD was extened only until May of 2010.
Interestingly the extension came from Nebaraska Service Center when my past cards were from Texas Service Center.
Any ideas? What should I do?

Well, you can not predict USCIS actions.

If you are EB2 I or C, they might have done this with an assemption that your PD would fall in the 'current' category in next one year and you may get GC.

If you are EB3 I or C, then someone in USCIS has enough time to play and you are the toy.

On both cases, there is nothing to worry.

As I understand, EAD extension is always for one or two year period. The counting starts from the EAD approval date. So, if your renewal EAD was approved in May 2009 so you rightly got it until May 2010.

Hi

I have applied for EAD extension in Feb 2009. My EAD will expire on 16, June 2009.
I have received new EAD card on 30 April 2009 valid from 16, June 2009 to 15, June 2011 ( For 2 years).

I am EB3 with PD Dec 2003 and with Nebraska service center. Any doubts or speculations about this.Funny. Is'nt it

May be you get your GC before the Expiry of your EAD

Just FYI, I have got my EAD for two year in Jan 2009.

Maybe somebody can dig out that specific memo regarding 2 year EAD to clear this out.

But from my vague memory, I remember that 2 year EAD is not always the case. There were some conditions to get 2 year EAD, instead of 1 year (something like less chance of getting GC soon).

So in a way you might have got a 1 year EAD.

Last Month I applied for renewal I got 2 year EAD and the new ead starts the next day of the old EAD's Expiration.

Check your Passport expiry date

Jagran could be right. Most likely your passport expires on the date and they cannot issue you an EAD Beyond that time.

My Passport expires in 2014, so thats not the case. I called the 800 number and I was asked if I am waiting for my priority date to be current, have I applied for 485, is my 140 approved. My case is true in all cases, so she asked me to refile the petition along with the original card(the one with the error). If they deem that USCIS made a mistake they will issue a new card and waive the fees.

Refiled the petition and got the 2 year extension without having to pay the fees again. Got the EAD card today.

Congrats! Conditions for 2 year EADs are, I140 must be approved and PD must not be current at the time of approval.
