What is employers incentive to change my employment status after my EAD is approved

I recently received my EAD card, and now my employer is forcing me to change the employment status from H1-B to EAD. Can someone please explain me what is his incentive to do so and also how will it affect me ? My 6 yrs of H1 completes in 2 months, but I have already applied for my H1-B extension.

If your employer has many employees on H1B, switching you to EAD will reduce the count. If H1B/ total employee ratio is close to 50%, then hiring more H1B will result in higher fees. If this is not the case, I am not sure what the rational is - it is also possible that if you are no longer on H1B - then your employer does not need to pay you when you are on bench.

That makes sense, after 50% the visa costs soar.
