Default Visa appointment in Toronto

Hi

Can I book my Visa appointment at Toronto US Embassy without having H1B approval papers? I have just applied for H1b extension planning to conver to premium soon, was thinking since Toronto interviews are baclogged by a month or so if I could jus book now. I am not sure if I have fill ds-156 immediately on the site and if it will cause any problems.

Please respond if anyone has done so recetnly

Thanks

thats probably because of your broad title for the thread: one question could mean any of 10,000 things, and everyone who sees this on the front page (including me), is forced to look at the thread whether they know about H1B stamping or not (on the front page we dont even know what sub-forum you have filed this question on).

Something along 'H1B stamping in Canada' or 'H1B online appointment in Canada' or 'filling DS-156 online for canada H1B stamping' would have been a better title.

AFAIK you can request the appointment without filling out the DS-156, you only need your passport number, address etc& pay the ~$10 in fees. You can fill out the DS-156 (& 157 if needed) later.

Yes, you can do if you've got your receipt notice... If you'vefiled H1 extension, your I-94 number would remain same.. just validity will get extended.. So really you'll have all information for appointment... Just need to update it once you get the approval in hand...

You'll need approval for the appointment though....

I would only take an appointment after i get the approval to be on a safer side. People might argue by saying that i will do PP,but if there is an RFE and it takes time to resovle it then what?? So to be absolutely safer i would suggets to get the approval and then take the appointment.Never take the case granted that USCIS will approve it if we do PP.

I am not sure if Ottawa is any easy. I have been trying to get one in Ottawa since last couple of days but not luck. If fact, I have having no luck with all 4 east coast consulates (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Quebec City) in Canada. I wonder if calling them would help but the online site says that the consulates also rely upon that same online system so if I don't see it online, consulate can't really do much. I wonder if that's true.

Here you go:

https://www.nvars.com/Production/userhome.aspx

Just scroll down all the way and click on continue. You will have to enter your passport # and other personal information to book an appointment. I have been trying for last 3 days with no luck. Hopefully you'll have more luck. Good luck.

Thanks Much! so what is the recommended approach here? I have applied for 485, EAD, AP (receipt received, EAD approved). Is it still advisable to go to Canada and get H1 stamped?
