Default H1b stamping and passport validity

What is the latest on this issue.
If your passport expires prior to the 797 (extension approval notice) will they stamp a visa only till the passport expiry date? or will they stamp until the expiry date shown on the approval notice??
Ofcourse while re-entering the POI officer will give an I-94 only till the PP expiry date.
Anybody who had recent experience please post.

The visa will be valid until H1 expiry.
At port of entry, I-94 was given mentioning "valid until PP expiry".

Renewed passport and applying for H1 extension (was told by lawyer that H1 expires with I-94!!!)

Default I was given close to 8 months less than PP expiry at POE

hello there

is there a link that we can show to officer at POE that I 94 should be same as PP expire for indian national. I was given close to 8 month less than PP expire. my pp expire in june 2011. I 797 and stamp in July 2011 and at port I got Nov 2010 validity on I 94. I am thinking to go to CBP office to have them correct so i can be free from h1b ext hassle for few months..

After renewing your passport if you can go out of US to any neighbouring country (Mexico,Canada) then while coming back you will get I-94 with expiry date matching with expiry date on your stamped visa. This is just an alternative and you might well be aware of it. just my 2 cents..

Default Going canada by car , sometime they don't give new I 94

I heard and read online that if you drive to Canada for less than 30 days then you may not get new I 94. My lawyer mentioned same but he is more interested that I renew my i 797 through him so he can get some money.

Driving to canada and back will not result in a new I-94. However, if you fly you will get a new I-94 on returning at the POI.

Crazymonk, while getting stamp in 2006 the same thing happened to me also. Got stamp well past the PP expiry date but if you read posts online several of them say that the stamp might be given only until the PP expiry date. Has anybody had that experience?? If so how did you handle it.
The stupid Indian cosulate does not allow people to extend their passports ahead of one year from the date of expiry.
