Default Urgent: Lost passport with valid H1B while in India

I came to India on a short visit and while here, lost my passport that had the H1B stamped on it with the 797 approval notice in it. I have applied for a replacement passport but i am trying to find out what i need to do in order to get a visa stamped. Has anyone been through this before? I cant find any such info on the Embassy web site. My visa was issued in New Delhi. Any help/info would be much appreciated,

thx

Default Passport lost

The new indian passport will not come with the US visa stamp obviously, so you got to follow the same procedure as a new applicant.

You will get a duplicate I-797 with a valid I-94 in it, so the embassy will understand that you were legally in the US and because of the fact that the passport was lost you are applying again. They have all the records believe me. I dont think they should have any problems re issuing the visa.

Take a letter from your employer.

Good luck -- You will be ok
