One thing she's read is that she needs to have $100 per day for every day she plans to spend in the US in order to get the Visa. She also read that mentioning she knows somebody in the US will diminish her chances of getting it, because apparently it increases the risk of her being a potential illegal immigrant.
Again, I apologize if these kind of questions don't belong on this sub-forum. But does anybody know if what she read is correct?

If she is from one of the visa waiver countries, she can visit the U.S without a visa for upto 90 days. In order to get a visitor visa (which allows her to stay upto 6 months at a time), she needs to convince the consular officer that she is not a potential immigrant. In order to do that, she needs to show strong ties to the home country (such as a job that she need to come back to, property, bank account etc). Which country is she from?
