My wife has H1B processed in maiden name -(i 797, i-94, stamping). she recently changed her maiden name to married name. she changed her name in SSN and Passport. DMV in NJ are asking to change the name in immigration office. We spoke to the immigration authority and they say there are no relevant forms to make the name change. If anybody have solution let me know.

for what it s worth here is my experience with ohio bmv

i brought h1b approval till feb st 2010 and receipt notice for I 485 and employer letter till feb 1st 2010. I dont have ead or ap.

they told me that cus of i485 i can only get dl for 1 year, however with the employment letter they did give it to me till feb 1st 2010

Hi Friends, I went to DMV PA (Bridgevile) to renew my drivers license recently. They are not accepting original EAD/ AP, copy of 485 receipt plus employer letter. They are asking for original 485 receipt. Unfortunately my ex-employer did not give the original receipt.

Did any body renew the PA DL without original 485 receipt?

Hi,

I assume you want to renew DL based on the receipt notice for your EAD renewal not the valid EAD itself. If so, I know the Edison DMV located on kilmer rd (near edison train st) gives you 6 mo. renewal... I got it from them in dec based on my h1 rcpt notice...

If you have a valid ead, then they'd renew your DL till the expiry shown on EAD.

Explain to the DMV about this... and try not to go on a weekend. They are extremely busy on weekends are easily irritated. Find them when they are relatively calm and free...

Looks like IL is the place to get the license. No questions asked and you will get 5 years. I just had my license renewed for 5 years in Aug 2008 by mail even though my H1 expires in Oct 2009.

I am an H1B holder.... my wife holds an H4. Her DL expired and it has been impossible to get her a renewal. On our last discussion it was brought to our attention that their could be a discrepancy between DHS data (my wife's birthday) even it shows correct in all documents printed by them and the Indiana's BMV database. Meanwhile she is holding 'Temporarily Driving Permits' (piece of paper) that expires every 30 days....
Any thoughts...

YEs, I did.

Mailed renewal notice along with $$. Got back DL valid for 5 years

Mr.CoolPal - No offense to you. However your suggestion basically says we should be at their mercy and most of us let them treat us this way.

This is God damn license. If you have all the right paperwork why the f*** we need to care about their mood. They need to do their job. If they dont give you the license when you have all the paperwork, go sue them. But do we do that?. No. We are Chickens. All we do is come to a free forum and whine.

Did you ask them to show you the rule book where it says you need I-485 receipt?. If not, please do.

No questions asked - 6 yrs in CT. Now fetch that.
