Status Change query

Hi All,

I am planning to apply for change of status (H1 -> F1)

If I apply for change of status on like 28th (application reaches USCIS) of a month and in case my employer sends the H1-b cancellation documents to USCIS on the 5th of the next month.

Can some one tell me what the status would be after I receive the receipt for the change of status ?
Is it a valid status ? and
Is there a limit on the number of days I can stay in the US on that status ?
