Default laidoff with one month notice in H1B - can i apply business visa after that

Hi,
I got laid off due to sequestration with one month notice. I am in H1B. After one month my employer is going to cancel my H1B. What are my options? Is there any grace period for H1B. Can I avail B1/B2 visa after that, so that I can look for jobs?

I am also considering becoming student option. It seems it take few months to change status from H1B to F1 after getting I20. What would be my status during that time?

Thanks

Do you have EAD? Looking at your profile and PD you should. If so then find another job in your field and invoke AC21.

No, I don't have EAD. I am one of those unlucky one's who missed the boat.

60 days grace period but i've seen longer gaps like 6-9 months getting h1 approved but some without i-94.
