Unhappy laid-off, want to enjoy life a little bit, but....

just got axed, 2nd time in 12 months, LOL...

really want to take a couple months off, just rest, relax and think about what to do with my life.

PD is at least one year away. but in 2007 fiasco, there were people in my situation but with PD just a couple days earlier got GC. US immigration system really has no certainty at all.

My question is how likely i could get RFE'd for employment in the next 3 months? if get RFE, any tactics to stall?

thank you for sharing your insights.

Two contradicting statements.

If you take #1, you will find that waiting for GC is not worth and you may end up with more fruitful ideas that build your future, a business, moving to different country, back home etc...

If you take #2, there is no point in thinking about life or rest as there is no such thing while waiting for GC, just work 24/7 to get a job as soon as possible.

Sorry ....

My Friend,
People would be telling you to keep a job and just play safe. Hopping between jobs can get overwhelming and exhaust you mentally.
My advice: Don't give a damn thinking the consequences and worrying about worst case scenarios. Go take a vacation, enjoy yourself and get a break from this everlasting conquest for better immigration status.
Most likely you won't get a RFE, very few people get those. Even if you get one, you don't need to be employed to reply back. You can get a that letter from one of few thousand desi consultants sitting out there waiting to write anything for you.

One dying man once said: "All my life I spend most time worrying about things that never happened to me."

Please enjoy your vacation and when you come back reply to this thread and write "I enjoyed my trip."
Then when you get GC come back again to this thread and write: " I got the green card, not sure what to do with it now."

Default N Joy!

My suggestion is to take a break for a few mnths, do not think abt GC at all for sometime, there are a lot of probabilities outside this well.

In regards to an RFE, we are all prone to checking emails anyways, might as well check your lawyers emails or IV / USCIS websites for any update once a while.

Default I am in same boat

I am in your boat. After 5 years of employment got axed in November 1st. Got 3 months severance so money is good for 3 months. My wife delivered our first child last week.

Enjoying life right now without much worries.

Little different from you, I got a Medical RFE in october and replied. According to all lawyers chances of me getting an EVL RFE in next few months is very slim for me, since if they wanted to get EVL, they would have done it with Medicals.

Right now I am focussed on enjoying life and would start finding job in January as not much hiring goes in december anyway.

Good Luck and keep fingers crossed. Also do not rely too much on online system. I got RFE and online status was just pending and not RFE.

What I've come to know is that job openings are low in the November and December months anyways. So... it's fine to take a couple of months off, think what you want to do and come back recharged in January or whenever you feel like it. Good luck.

u might have been peradjudicated by now. So take it easy. And don't rely on desi companies to give u an offer letter.

U have time to find a job and try to get a good one . In past I made mistake of taking whatever came on my way, in the process, I had to deal with crappy jobs which did no good to me except the fact that I got paid.

Depends. What I see now is jobs opening up. The job market is getting a bit better than before. Earlier this year and end of last year - it was hopeless and frozen.

Hitech and IT and engineering will get better and better - the reason I say this is, I have studied the entire cycle.

The way economy grows is by "movement" - there has to be movement - once it starts, it keeps growing.

No matter how many jobs are outsourced or sub contracted - new jobs will be popping up.

But, I think we must all focus on creating jobs - rather than seeking jobs.

Take some months off and have fun. I took some months off twice after I started this process in 2002. Once to finish my MBA by going full time and the other just to goof around for 6 months. Once in a while we all need a break.

When we work, we lose a lot of essential things in life because of craziness in work life.

Best things to do in a break

(1) Eat good healthy food
(2) Spend quality time with family and friends
(3) Improve health, lifestyle - learn stress free living, no feel bad or tensions - exercise, sleep, yoga etc..
(4) Go for cruises , camping, long drives etc..
(5) Do social service
(6) Play games, watch movies, browse internet
(7) Have a positive outlook - look at career life in a different way - look at how people became big - offcourse not by hanging on to job by hard work or other methods or constantly wanting to be on job - but by innovation and thinking out of the box
(8) Improve your networks, build broken bonds, catch up with all those good people

Eventually - when the time comes - u will find yourself back in a promising job
