Default Medical Exam again?

Just curious, if your I-485 has been pending for more than a year, does your medical exam expire? Do you have to do it every year?

I asked the same question to my employer and the attorney, they said USCIS will send a notice for the medical exam.I read somewhere that the medical exam is valid for one year.

You need to file I-485 within a year after passing a medical (8 CFR 245.5). So the medical is valid for 1 year (USCIS policy), but every year the USCIS extends the validity of medicals for one more year.
http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrele...sion_ja708.pdf
So it does not expire after you file I-485.

Thanks LazyCis,
That's good news then. Those medicals are expensive.

The medical exam is valid one year. Within the one year you need to file

Here is a new ruling on medical exams:

Extension of Validity of Medical Certifications on Form I-693
"Due to the continuing backlog of some adjustment of status applications, the validity of the civil surgeon’s endorsement on Form I-693, when submitted in support of a concurrently filed adjustment of status application, is extended until the time of adjudication if no Class A or Class B medical condition is certified by the civil surgeon. This policy will be in effect until January 1, 2009." USCIS, Aytes, Jan. 7, 200http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=227266

Default Medical opinion

Probably a good thing too. If you failed the TB skin test (which many Indians will), many doctors refuse to administer the test a second time because the risk of getting a severe reaction is very high. Add this to USCIS not accepting a clear X-ray only as a test result- They want to see the failed skin test as well. So people who failed the skin test the first time will be in a catch-22 between your doctor and USCIS
