h4 extension while h1b extension is pending

Hello everyone, hope you can enlighten me my situation. I have h1b extension pending, and i only have a receipt number, is it possible to file my spouse H4 extension even my h1b is still pending. I'm scared because my spouse and I visa which is h1b and h4 respectively will expire the next 2 months. Thank you in advance!
