Every company does business in the terms they seem to think right and legal. I take slightly different opinion about this thing. TCS is like Walmart of IT Services. 5 years back I bought a gallon of milk for 4$ in Fl. Last year, when gas prices went up, I paid 5$. Later when recession came in big way, I am paying 3.29$ for the same gallon of milk. How come I am able to pay 75 cents less than 5 years back?
I believe that effeciencies in operations, more remoting (webex etc), billing pressure and bad PR might be driving them to do these kind of decisions. But we all know it is all for avoiding bad press. The moment economy goes north, the old practices will continue. Personally, as a PM and PMP (not a PIMP for sure) and an employee as well, I did observe that resource is an offending word. Perhaps, that comes from the word Human Resources, which was not so bad word earlier (and I think even now). But you are right, writing someone as resource in excel sheet is different and treating them (us) as resource is different. And only a$$holes do that.

Why is that asking them to work odd hours? Dont anybody know that if there are remote teams coordination is a challenge. My client has west coast team and UK Team, I find that they work odd hours all the time. And when there is a global ad launches, our client teams across the globe work like hell during 3 AM calls.

This whole concept of development center in US is just an eyewash for the local americans. Its nothing more than a fly-to-location for L1 visas from india. USCIS should raid them in future and find out how many of them actually work there and rest at the client site. Its companies like TCS which have brought down the billing rates, so their presence anywhere is a threat to the local job market in that location. Welcome to the $14/hr billing rate Ohio!
Poor local americans are excited, little do they know about the twisted theory behind this TCS move.
