Default Donor Forum: Immigration double talk

This is what the president said about immigration yesterday -

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21324.html

“Immigration reform has to be part of a broader strategy to deal with our border issues,” Obama said in an interview with CNN en Español.

“I've already met with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and committed to working with them to try to shape an agenda that can move through Congress.”

This is what Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said about immigration.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21346.html

In order to get immigration reform through Congress and to the president's desk it's going to take a healthy bipartisan majority," Gibbs said. "It's going to take votes from both sides of the aisle, and I don't anticipate it'll happen until there is some agreement to that."

I have observed the same thing when the NY Times article came out, where the president has made several comments in the past about immigration reform and the Press Secretary Robert Gibbs pushing back against it. I am wondering if it is some kind of a game to satisfy people on both sides of the immigration debate.

It is the usual good cop/bad cop routine. It is Gibbs' job to manage expectations. Nobody in the administration wants everyone to think that Obama can successfully pass immigration reform. The more troubling aspect is the lack of any other group whispering into the President's ears other than the caucus. If we do not get to the caucus and get our voices heard, we will be doomed with CIR.

RIght now they are trying the role of cat on the wall...why do you think Obama hired RAhm as his chief of staff, just ask around anyone in chicago area, U will know...

They will "take the issue up" as promised but they will try to play the best political game like they played in primaries and later, bottomline they definitely want to be around for an other 4 years...we have to make as much we can to get atleast some of what we want..
