There is a small bit highlighted in bold I picked up from the article from below URL . Basically it is public knowledge as put forth by Sen. McCain after meeting with the president that one of the GOP demands is a temp worker program for agricultural and high tech workers that the unions (who are supporting democrats) oppose. The Democratic congresswoman refrenced in the below article (who is also the vice chair of the House Homeland Sec commitee) says that this is one of the GOP demands that would fit in the bill in order to get the GOP votes. This means that there is some traction for EB issues in this proposed reform..
89.3 KPCC | White House meets with Congress on immigration President Obama sat down with members of Congress from both parties today to talk about immigration reform. The president said he’d like to sign a bill by early next year. Kitty Felde: The summit was postponed twice. But Republicans and Democrats like L.A. Congressman Xavier Becerra said it was worth the wait. Congressman Xavier Becerra: Great meeting. Felde: Becerra is vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus. He says the president asked members of Congress to work on legislation with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Becerra: We’ve debated this before. The issues aren’t new. It’s just a matter of going to it. Felde: Republicans say border security is paramount. They also want a worker verification system – and a way to deal with the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants that won’t end up bringing another 20 million crossing the border in years to come. Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez of Anaheim says there’s another GOP demand likely to be included in an immigration bill: a temporary worker program. Unions hate it, but the vice chair of the House Homeland Security Committee calls it a “necessity to find the votes” needed to pass a broad immigration reform bill. |

So all this discussion about fast and twitter based text message USCIS website is good, but its not relevant to fixing the backlogs. |

Can Pappu or any other knowledgable person refresh our memories on last failed CIR proposal's parts relevant for backlogged employment based applicants like us?
I vaguely remember introduction of point based system for future applicants in which a PhD with experience might score less compared to an Agricultural worker. Was there a proposal of sending all backlogged I-140/I-485 cases to a Backlog Elimination Center with reduced annual limit of 90k or 120K? Please excuse me if I am totally wrong. After all I am getting old and wonder what happens with my Employment based Green Card application if I reach retirement age before approval. Where is the question of Employment based Green Card when you are retired and there is no future employment? This could happen with many, including younger ones of today, if it takes decades as forecasted by Mr.Oppenheim. My question is whether CIR in its last version, if passed, will improve our situation or make it worse. If worse, what actions need to be taken now to make it better? |

I hope obama mean some real information as mentioned by you, i.e. what stage the application is at, what are all the mile stones that have already been reached, and what needs to happen before you application is adjudicated, this is what we would need to make it more transnparent apart from the 3 most imp ones you have mentioned. |

Its ok to be charged but not at the cost of discriminating certain categories, its better to be said no GC's than this unenduring torture of wait times etc |

They are clubbing LEGALS like us along with ILLEGALS. Its sad to see the after the decade long wait for ppl who are waiting, paying taxes, following the law are getting sidelined.
I dont know why IV is complementing the President for what?.. what did he say? or is planning to do. Just give us the status, now after waiting for 10 years in this country for my green card, all I get is a status update from the highly efficient USCIS ;-) What is he doing to give immediate relief to the ppl who have already suffered in this wait. This is all talk and no action. FBI name check is useless, as does not solve the problem of backlog for ppl who have waited insanely in this retrogressed system , they just move us from one endless queue to the other. Unfortunately, Obama is not going to do anything, not any time soon, perhaps not in his first term. He just told us legals : "So long suckers!, just wait.. I'm going to make immigration tough for the you high skilled legals", but he will take care of the illegals first, because that's what there future vote bank is. Remember : Hope can drive a man insane. |

i have to say i agree with you bro. Illegals get a mention in CIR for free and we legals/skilled migrants need to spend 100s of thousands of dollars to campaign and 'educate' lawmakers to include provisions for us in the CIR, where infact, the CIR should have been centered around our needs and illegals being just a part of the bill.
These lawmakers should have been more than aware of our conditions in the first place considering we are following the very laws they made!! Its all messed... |

Note the point that legal immigrants from non retrogressed countries feel that the current Immigration policy is adequate and good. I guess government is looking into the numbers of the effected people before thinking about going for the legislation. I feel thankfull that at least the immigration issue has come to light and govt is planning to bring the CIR. If they do not bring CIR or any other legislation we will be standing in the 485 line for nearly a decade. Per my understanding our best bet is to support the CIR legislation whole hearedly and try to get the recapture clause added to it (if initially not there). I support this bill because I feel this bill will help us (legal immigrants) although it will help those millions too. I personally have no issues with those millions getting GC since this bill will help us (legal immigrants) to get one too. I agree with IV core and thank them for creating this thread. |
