When you click and buy products from these merchants below, not only will you get the same great rate as you normally would but you will help IV earn some much needed money. http://www.cafepress.com/immivoice/3475985 Since a lot of IV folks will be staying in & around DC for the Sep 13th rally, maybe we can coordinate the accomodation , car rental and other issues. GUYS GUYS ... Try priceline. Bid on hotel reservations. You can get 4 star Hotel in Downtown DC for around 80 dollars per night. Dont go to hotels.com or other sites. For hotels, bidding in priceline is the best. I'm am throwing out some suggestions: 1.For folks that will be flying into Dulles/Reagan Natl : a.Car pool together by renting a car instead of each one renting one. b.IV members who drive to DC can pick them up at the airport. c.Stay together at the hotels if w/o family 2.For folks that drive to DC: a.Car pool together by renting a car instead of each one renting one. b.Stay together at the hotels if w/o family Instead of being scatterred, if we pick on 2-3 hotels and then make all the reservations there then we can talk to the hotel folks for discounts and also it gives us an oppurtunity to meet the evening before and get to know each other a lot before the rally. Hotel prices: The prices of almost all places runs south of $185 within 5 miles of DC.But looking around suburbs the following is what I found.Local DC/VA/MD folks can opine on areas like Alexandria,College heights, Arlington and traffic issues and all such things. Howard Johnson Express Rates: $79.95 Address: 600 NEW YORK AVE NE Washington, DC 20002 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Days Inn Alexandria South Rates: $96.00 Address: 6100 RICHMOND HWY Alexandria, VA 22303 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Days Inn Arlington Rates: $99.00 Address: 3030 COLUMBIA PIKE Arlington, VA 22204 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Comfort Inn Alexandria Rates: $115.99 Address: 5716 S VAN DORN ST Alexandria, VA 22310 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Days Inn Connecticut Ave Rates: $119.00 Address: 4400 CONNECTICUT AVE Washington, DC 20008 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Red Roof Inn Washington DC - Downtown Rates: $119.99 Address: 500 H STREET NW Washington, DC 20001 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Comfort Inn Ballston Rates: $134.99 Address: 1211 N GLEBE ROAD Arlington, VA 22201 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Homestead Wash DC-Alexandria Rates: $154.99 Address: 200 BLUESTONE ROAD Alexandria, VA 22304 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Comfort Inn at the Pentagon Rates: $159.00 Address: 2480 SOUTH GLEBE RD BLDG 2 Arlington, VA 22206 Room type:Standard Room with 2 Double Beds Non Smoking Adults : upto 4 Please update the list as you find it. I have just posted my message on first thread also and I'd like to really emphasize my experience.
I travelled to DC in May and I booked a cheap 2 star Hotel in downtown DC for nearly 125 per night. Then I went to priceline and found 4 star hotels for 79 per night. I got JW marriot (one of the best in DC) for 79 per night and this one was also close to everything, including capitol and white house. So go to priceline and bid for 4 star Hotels around DC. That way, you can avoid having to get rental cars. If you book accomodation in suburbs, you will need either a rental car (plus parking hassles) or train. |

I had posted this in another thread - just adding it here for reference
for hotels/car rentals try hotwire.com - and access the site thru ebates.com you will get extra discounts and cashback. All hotwire bookings are non-refundable - so cancellations / changes are not allowed but the hotel choices are really good Also if DC hotels are not available /expensive try booking near BWI (Baltimore) MTA metro trains run from greenbelt station maryland all the way to Union station DC. Baltimore airfares and hotels are cheap compared to DC.

Try to use Reagan National Airport rather than IAD because you can use the local train to get to the rally location pretty quickly.
IAD takes an hour plus to reach downtown via bus/train.

There are lots of good hotels close to dulles airport. They range from $70 & above.
It takes around 60 minutes to reach DC from dulles. Those of u who do not want to drive can also take a bus from dulles transit center to DC, it's $7 one way. You can also take a metro from Vienna station, Vienna is around 30 minutes from dulles airport. You can park your car in Vienna. Since it's really tough to find parking in DC. |
