Default Duration of stay in an year in F1

Hello,
My mother is planning to visit us soon to help my pregnant wife. We are all excited. I was wondering if you can advise us how long she can stay in one year.

One friend was telliing us that in one year she can't stay more than 6 months. I tried to research it on USCIS website but was unable to get an answer.

1. Is it true?
2. Is it one calander year or one financial year.

I would really appreciate your help.

I think visa is classified as B-1. But either way, yes it is true that she can only say for 6months in any year. I think year starts from date of entry. In my opinion it should be calendar year or else you will be able to claim her on your taxes as dependent and that is not possible. Her stay cannot exceed 6 months in any calendar year. Also if you try to bring her again then POE might get suspicious.

Consult proper lawyer I am just one of the ignorant bunch surfing internet.
