GC Re-entry Permit discussion

Would like to understand process and experiences of members.

One question I have after u get the approval ("the permit") is if you return before the permit expires (in < 2 years say) does the validity of the permit expire? So let's say I get a 2-year permit starting Jan 1 2009 which means I can return to the US on Dec 31 2010 or Jan 1 2011....if I return in say June 2010 for a short stay (1 week) and return to my home country does my reentry permit expire in June 2010?

Most of us here are many many years away from getting the GC (I hope at least by the time i retire I would get my GC), let alone worry about the GC reentry permit.
