Default Questions about PIO Card, Pl help

Hi All,
Due to this backlog in I485 we are getting to a point were we are thinking about may be moving to India. I have a 2 year old kid and I have a few question about her PIO card.
Could some one please offer some advice on this.

1) Once the PIO card reaches it's expiry, will it be renewed in India? I am not finding anything related to this anywhere. some places it says it can be renewed by the issuing place only. But if we return to India we may not be able to come here to get it renewed. What are options in this case. I am having a hard time finding any clear guidelines on this by GOI.

2) Regarding FRRO registration, are authorities in small places aware of the FRRO process. Any personal experience from a small town will be appreciated.

3) Once my 2 year old is 16, do they have to register every six months or the same registration will be valid at that time.

4) Also, if we move to a different place in india or change the address do we have to go for a new FRRO registration?

Any inputs will be appreciated.

If you are still in a job, why do you want to move to India. You dont' have to do anything. It will automatically go and crash one day, will be either beneficial to us or not. We are all in same boat.

It can be renewed in India. If they can issue PIO card inside india, there should be a way to renew, may be it is not listed out in web site.

Thats what we think. But they are indeed. Local authorities are aware of it. After registration how well it is maintained is a question, but there is a system.

I guess, they are supposed to register every 6 months regardless of their age including minors.

Just inform local authrorities. For minors there should not be any problems at all.

Thats India and our HOME man, why are you worrying much to taking your kid to there. Be proud.

It is indeed good for your kid to live with/visiting often grandparents, uncles, brothers and sisters.

Hi,
2 things I could suggest

Firstly, Obama administration may still do something for the legal immigration system during February-March 2010

If you have waited long enough, it could only be a few more months
You may be able to make a better decision then

But coming to your question about PIO,

My assumption is that a PIO card is given on the basis that the holder is a person of Indian origin.
There is no requirement explicitly stating that the parents should reside in US or a foreign country to be able to apply/renew

You can extend your child’s PIO card from anywhere in the world including India
But because you were interested in extending it from India, you can write to the address below:

I do understand that you may want to be able to speak to a person and get first hand information but I am sure you know, the easiest way of doing that in India is to have any of your relatives visit the office and try getting the information.

And if you can manage, try reaching that office through a known IAS officer or an IFS officer, things will be much faster this way

All the best and God bless you!
