I read through some of the 148 comments posted. It explains the sorry state of affairs and the understanding of the common people. Most of them don't understand what the topic is and lot of comments on illegal immigration. Sheer ignorance is unbelievable. Time to educate these folks.

I have seen a couple of sane voices though.

The many comments accompanying this story show how uninformed the average person is about immigration processes. Unfortunately, the wrong people appear to have a free run of the media. Ill-informed, poorly researched, and extremely biased reports are being fed into living rooms via cable TV. These are creating an unjustifiable sense of fear even in otherwise thinking minds. Education is the key.

Nice article.

I went through the comments and i feel pitty for those guys who doesnt know the fact. When people think the "world series" is between mets and yankess, i dont know how we can educate these peoples. I think the government has to blamed for these. For these proples, all they know is there home state and that is the world for them. They dont know that there toilet tissue paper comes from china. If china stops sending toilet paper today and google decides to bring down there service, USA can be stand still. to be iornic, i read a forum in NY one fellow member who is from NYC asking another fellow member from "orange county" in NY whether he needs passport to travel to orange county. I dont know what to say.

- The article does not seem to mention the name of 'immigrationvoice'
- The flower campiagn was not by Indians. It was by everyone.

I think rmorris@sun-sentinel.com should be informed

I think it is ok if doesn't mention IV's name. What I'm pleased about is that they have correctly reported the problems faced by skilled legal immigrants and have not twisted the facts like CNN does.

I agree with you priderock. The comments are so IGNORANT and stupid. GC seems like a lost cause now with such a restrictionist sentiment in this country. The falling dollar, the rising trade deficit, the ignorance of people and it seems to be becoming more socialist

I went through the 400+ comments and majority of them are insane. "Go back, we don't need you, low paying H1bs, stealing american jobs". I'm taken back by the level of hatred in the comments. I think this boils down to some mainstream media and Radio talk shows bringing immigration as a central theme and putting legal and lillegal immigrants in the same boat ( no pun intended). I now have a feeling that non IT people who follow these shows regualry now associate H1bs with low paying jobs and here to steal their lunch and hence their urge to post these insane comments on any immigration related news.

Is it only me getting this feeling but it's scary :(

THis is what I posted in the comments:

"To All the Anti-Legal-Immigrants:

We are not asking that America change its immigration laws.
All we are saying is that America and its nodal agency for immigration matters (USCIS), has already approved our petitions for legal immigration. They also stated that on July 2 you can apply for green card based on that approved petition, and then they flip-flopped on July 2.

We love the United States and thats why we are here to contribute and live the American Dream. We ask the federal government to show that it is really the leader of the free world, to stop this flip-flop and honor its word to legal immigrants.

And btw, we are not cheap labor stealing your jobs. We are working on the bleeding edge of technology and science to make America globally competitive and the world a better place to live.
We speak the language of chipsets, enterprise software systems, biochemical and biomedical technologies, neural networks, AI, fuzzy control systems,
composite materials, nano technology, cancer and AIDS research etc. etc.

Finally, we are not stealing your jobs, we are already living in the US and working on our jobs legally for the lat 5-10 years. To send us back will mean the opposite of what you desire, it would mean shipping your jobs to overseas locations."

More Interesting exchange....

Patriot,
See my earlier comments. We are not asking America to change immigration laws to suit us. We are just asking that the govt. accept our applications as per their earlier notice, and we are more than happy to wait in line for 2-3 years until our turn comes under the current green card quotas and laws.

Reply:
"See my earlier comments. We are under no obligation to accept all foreign workers that want access to our country. This country's obligations are to Americans. Perhaps the government realized that an American was qualified to fill your position and that your service is no longer needed. Have a safe trip home. "

Patriot,

Sorry but I'm not about to go home yet. I have legally been authorized by the government to live and work here.

BTW I had mentioned earlier that our green card petitions have already been approved by the government. What we are asking is that they grant us our cards and complete the process.

No matter what you or others say, I will stay in this country legally, fight for my rights (whatever they may be), and get a green card and Citizenship and live the America Dream.

This struggle of legal highly skilled immigrants is just and reasonable and we are only contributing to the success of America like many great immigrants before us.

We promise to continue that great tradition in the spirit of Einstein, Pulitzer, Chandrasekhar and Sergey Brin (Google Co-founder)

People on Sun-sentinel forum were on a mad spree slinging mud on the H1 community. The truth of the matter is bulk of the participants had been meandering with there ir-relevant and ignorant comments. Un-disputedly none of the opponents really had a clue of what they had been talking about. I had been tracking this thread since morning and believe it or not that has been the most active thread on that site garnering in excess of 465 comments as of now. Kudos to you buddy. Indeed an audacious stance from your side...

I think those active protestants on sun-sentinel Forum need to "Get Well Soon". Thanks again to all the members on the immigration voice.org who chipped in to salvage the H1 community on sun-sentinel forum and tried there best to bring into light the side of legal immigrants.

First, that all you hatred spewing folks need to understand is that this article is not about illegal immigration. Its about legal immigrants who are having a tough time. If you equate legal immigration with minimum wages workers, all the pro-legal immigration arguments would be lost on you.

All those talking about how the government should instead spend on educating the citizens better need to understand that this would not happen even if the government willed it, coz of the citizens of this country, who have had things a tad too easy for them for years now. They did not have to go through what their ancestors had to.

Your basic elementary education system is broken (and I am not talking about your institutions for higher learning). Its simply not demanding enough. It does not believe in burdening the students. Back where I come from, we don’t get spring breaks, fall breaks, winter or summer breaks. The only vacation we get is about 3 to 4 weeks long, and during which, the schools make sure we have enough assignments to keep us busy. And classes are on 6 days a week from 7 AM to 1 PM, after which you would have to spend a minimum of 2 hours completing all the assignments. Missing an assigment would mean having to hear from the teachers bamboo canes. Punishments are meted out by teachers, as well as parents. We subscribe to “Spare the rod, spoil the child” theory. While you would be learning about multiplication tables in fifth grade, we would be learning trignometry and integrals and derivatives. We don’t get graded. We get ranked as per our scores, and theres always tough competition among the students, starting early as first grade to be the top rank holder in the class and school. While you all are busy playing with your latest gizmos, or posting comments on the internet as to why Paris Hilton should not be in jail, or arguing about why Barry Bonds does not deserve his soon-to-be record, students back home in Asia are burning the midnight oil to be among the top rank holders so that they can get admitted into the higly regarded institutions. It’s the merit holders who are looked upon as heroes, and not the dimwit quarterbacks, or bone-headed cheerleaders.

Until you see the same happening across American schools and homes, better skilled and educated workers would continue to enroll into American universities for their Masters, PhDs, and avail of the job opportunities here, and live the American Dream, and work towards being an ideal citizen of this great democracy that is truly a beacon of freedom for the world.

What a sorry bunch... Wasted 50 minutes on the thread. I just could not resist getting a dip-stick survey of the opinions out there. They just don't let facts cloud their judgement in any way.

exactly. it was an interesting experience though, just wanted to engage one of these losers in a debate and see where it ends.
But in general when we come across such debates we should try and present the cause of legal immigrants in as civil a way as possible without losing focus to other side-issues, inspite of what bigotry they spew.

That will ensure that the bigots at least alienate more saner people among them.
