Hi,

I had filed my I-485 myself for me & my wife. One reason for this is, based on the July 2nd visa bulletin, I thought it would come back any way. What are the pros & cons of filing I-485 application by self & by Attorney. All I-485 self-filers, please share some insight, experiences and thoughts.
Thank you.

According to the policy at my work, I had to file mine on my own. The company lawyer was available for clarifications and hand holding which I needed very little of.
Specially since mine was filed concurrently, we were dealing with 140 application also, so had a few meetings in person at which time I asked him my questions for 485.

I am in same boat as you. In my case, my lawyer told me on 2nd July (I gave her my docs on 2nd July) that since its going to be rejected there is no point she starts preparing (and charge me). I file myself thinking it would be rejected anyway. I just needed that rejection so that I can be part of AILF lawsuit. My lawyer is aware of my self filing and once this thing clears out, I will ask her to put G-8 on my application so that she can carry forward for this point.

Note that when I filed, I filed for just I-485 for me and my wife and was complete application (i.e. employment letter, paystub...everything).

Would appreciate comments from people who already have an experience. Especially dealing with RFE in case you file on your own.

sarat,

I filed for me & my wife only. Please check the other sources. I think for kids also it will be the same process. If you want, you can fill G-28 form with your information(instead of lawer) representing your kids.

Can anyone please let me know which processing center I should be sending my I485.

I heard earlier it was Nebraska but now is Houston, Is there is any specific place on USCIS site which describes these details

It is supposed to be filed at the Nebraska Service Center. See the link below:
