I recommend everybody to call Sen. Cornyn and express our gratitude. I called his office and did the same. His office told me that he will push it again the next year asap.

thx all

Did not think about this... By the way, we should open a dialog with the senator to see if he can pass a separate bill just for EB provisions (if there is less opposition for it).

I think this is a great idea. Let's do another one of those phone campaign and everyone call Sen. Cornyn to thank him for all his support and understanding. He should know that we are all behind him on this and he can count on our support for this bill next time around in 2007.

If we all call the same day, the magnitude of the call will not go unnoticed.

Great idea. Let us see if we can coordinate this better than the calls last week.

I think we should collectively pick a day to call and everyone just calls on that day. No one is probably available in his DC office because of recess so may be we should call his regional office in Texas.

Great idea. Let us see if we can coordinate this better than the calls last week.

At this time pls coordinate with each other to
- join and activate your state chapters
- participate in the funding drive
- bring in new members.
- update your profile with your full and accurate information so that IV can reach you in time of need.
we have been trying very hard to push for these action items and if we can successfully do the above 4 items, then whenever there is a need (like last week) we can successfully execute any campaign we want.

Just now I finished calling and talking to the U.S. Sen. John Cornyn office. his help there was very helpful and appreciated my calling to his office. He further said that when Sen. John Cornyn introduced this bill, at that time many opponents of this bill used to call and they had to be educated to know the value of the skilled ones....plus he further said that if many calls come favoring this bill then certainly Sen. John Cornyn will feel enogh motivated to bring this bill up again in Jan 2007.

Keep up the pressure guys

Apart from calling, is it worthwhile to send individual emails to the senator such that they have record of how many people were supporting SKIL bill?

alled senator Cornyn office to thank him and try again in 2007. CAlling senators a day or two before alone will not help our cause. We have to call them even in times likes these when nothing is happenning to push our cause.

BTW I also used the "Invite a friend" feature to refer 2 friends to IV. I will keep following up with them until they register. Just sending email is not good enough. Hope we reach the 10,000 membership by year end

Called and conveyed teh Gratitude...I then asked for som eimmigration specialist to see is they distinguish between h1B and EB issues. But got Voice Mail, left a message.

It might be a good excercise to find out if the folks distinguish between H1B and EB issues. Guys, call and find out and educate lawmakers taht way. Not just Cornyn but your state senators too. Of course not people like Tancreado and ilk, as they will cut u off no matter what.

I just sent an email using the form provided on the Senator's website at:
http://cornyn.senate.gov/index.asp?f=page&pid=220&lid=1

This way, you can provide your contact information as well as write a few sentences about yourself. (Include payment of taxes, social/medicare etc + being law abiding). Then make a request for EB provisions to be given special consideration.

Called Senator Cornyn and thanked him couple of days back.

Please call him and thank him over the phone guys. Don't count on just the lobbyist to guide him. We're a grass root org and we need to do what we've to do.

Btw, Senator used to have Tuesday Tea party in Dallas. (http://cornyn.senate.gov/index.asp?f=page&pid=17&lid=1 ) This is open to anyone, you've to mail in advance and confirm your appointment. I think it'll start again next year. Some of us should go there when it opens up and thank him and show our support.

I'm planning to attend next year. Let me know if any1 else is interested.

Guys/Gals,
I think we should let his office relax and not call and disturb. It might be better idea to send e-mails and not calling. If we all start to call him it will like last Thursday and Friday that we did for Senator Sessions.

They are taking a break and enjoying with family so e-mail would be a better option now and in January when he is back in Senate we could call wish him a very good new year and request to take up the bill again.

I agree, though our intent is good (express gratitude), it again should not work against us.

I think one email from IV representing all of us, would be a better way to thank him. Maybe IV admin can set up an email with names of all members (kind of like a signature) and send it to him.

Just a thought.

He is definitely not talking the calls and his office staff job is to take the calls! :) More over they're not going to get the same amount of calls. I spoke his office staff (not just front desk but someone who works on immigration), they were really nice and appreciated my call and spoke at length. I even discussed my personal case! They've asked to send a letter to them so that they can contact Dept of labor on my case. Just call his office when you can.

I have posted the same stuff in 3/4 threads. But no response. I am going to give one more shot and see if any one responds or not. I called Sen Conryn's office on Monday afternoon, expressed my thanks and requested him to pursue his efforts in Jan 07

Here is what I proposed. If we regulars, do this and have the calls need to be made on home page, it will pick interest to people who come once in a while.

1) Pick one/two senators & congressman for every day and post all of his office(s) contact information.

2) Along with it come up with what members need to tell when they call in. Need less to say members shouldn't be reading off the screen when they call. They express themselves in their own words.

3) Atleast 200 diff people call this particular senators/congressman in all day (over the day, not in a span of 2 hrs as I dont want the people answering calls to be pissed off at us. We did it that way because time was running out on us)

4) we can see if that makes any difference in our momentum, unless calling is know to counter our efforts. If I am not mistaken, I read some where on this post that we were advised to show grass roots effort by calling lawmakers.

Some one can raise a Q? why cant members call now without this agenda/calendar what ever I am talking about? Its simple. It will keep us organised & Most people dont take initiative to do it and by having an agenda/calendar we bring the inherent motiviation out.

Overall, I have a feeling that more people will get inspired and more people will call lawmakers.

:)...What a nice person you are and look even you are trapped in this rut. Please be aware that by calling to his office we are not creating inconvenience to him or any one in any way. He is a public person and to do that public work he is given by US govt a office, and money to have staff working in that office. So nothing is wrong in calling him (his office, as he does not pick his phone but his staff does and then staff keeps tally of calls, e-mails and faxes etc). Rather calling to him is more appropriate than writing e-mails or sending faxes...but saying that does not mean to lower e-mails and faxes effect. Let us keep him informed using all communication modes.

Please no one feel bad about in calling or faxing or e-mailing his office...it is perfectly OK and expected in America. If we will not speak out for ourselves, then who will.

Nixstor:

I agree with your idea... but I'm not sure if this is the right time to contact all the senators. I think we need to start calling in phases when the momentum picks again on Skil or some legal immigration bill. We should not dissipate our energy. We need some focused coordinated effort that will yield result.

All,

I believe that this time instead of pursuing the Senate folks , we should concentrate more on the lower house, the congress. We have not been talking to enough congressmen all along..Senators have been receptive to us and not the House representatives...

I also think we should persist in calling Sessions at this time.

It is not clear whether Sen.Sessions is ok with increasing EB visa numbers. He may be just against H number increases.
