Hi, I am on H1B and I am pregnant. I work in NJ. Is there any state specific benefits provided for bonding with new born or paid family leave during maternity leave in Nj that do not concern immigration status? Or is it only applicable to citizens and GC holders? I do know CA provide state specific benefits. But not sure in NJ.

you should get short term/long term disability benefits through your employer insurance. employer can't fire you under FMLA. I thinks federal govt mandates maternity leave after delivery; two weeks for natural delivery and 3 weeks for C-section. I happen to know this through my co workers.

Only FMLA is mandated max for 3 months without salary. The maternity leave (paid leave) depends on what the State mandates. And NJ seems to have a couple of weeks. Check out this link.

You are, of course, entitled to maternity leave when you are holding a H1B visa. Take a look at the State of New Jersey Parent Link site NJ Parent Link|Maternity Leave (http://www.nj.gov/njparentlink/career/maternity/) that tells you about State Disability benefits as they relate to pregnancy. There is also a link to how to take paid time off from work to meet your child's medical needs NJ Parent Link|Child Care & Family Leave (http://www.nj.gov/njparentlink/career/childcare/) - not sure if that will apply to you but you can take a look.
