Default What if 485 is approved when outside the country

Can you please explain to me what would happen if we travel on AP and our 485 gets approved when we are out of the country? Is there a risk if we reenter the country with our AP?.

Nope I dont think there is any problem. You should be fine.

Search these forums where someone had posted about 2 weeks ago that they didnt even have to use AP and took liberty to stand in the Permanent Resident Line at the airport when his/her gc was approved while outside the country.

When you try to re-enter US using AP, you will go through Secondary Inspection and IO will know that your I-485 has been approved and will admit you as Permanent Residents.

saratswain is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Approved I-485 while abroad

I had the same situation, I was carrying my AP and had a H1B valid visa as well. I entered through Boston and the officer used my AP only. He gave me 1-year parole and asked me to change my status by taking an infopass or surrender I-94 after receiving the card.

So please show your AP and let the officer decide.

I am not sure if it is good idea to show AP (unless asked) if you already have a valid H1 (assuming your GC is not approved. in that case your H1 is automatically invalid). There is no point of having additional hassle of changing the status back to H1b
