DES MOINES, IA Iowa Democratic Party Chair Michael Kiernan demanded the Grassleys come clean on their involvement securing the $200 million earmark for one of the infamous "Bridges to Nowhere" in Alaska. Barbara Grassley, who works at the Washington lobbying firm Chambers, Conlon & Hartwell, identifies herself on the firm's website as "the wife of Iowa's Senior U.S. Senator" whose responsibilities include "crafting legislative strategy" for clients. Her firm has been paid $260,000 since 2004 by the Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority1 to secure $201,425,000 in federal earmarks to construct the notorious "Bridge to Nowhere" in Alaska.2

"Iowans need and deserve an answer as to whether or not the Grassleys worked together to obtain this earmark and if they personally benefited from the more than $600 million in funds3 Mrs. Grassley helped get for her clients," said Michael Kiernan, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party.
