So I Guess you will need to know one of the languages on the list, but how proficient should you be and is this language intrepretation a full-time job requiring to put 40hrs/week? Is being deployed in unstabilized countries a certainity or can one just stay in US?

First, Language test is not hard. It just like a basic conversation between you and the tester. Second, You may or may not get the interpretor job. Depending on the available list of job at the time you enlist. Most of the people choose the Healthcare specialist job even they are hired as linguistic because Army will train you for a particular job you select. But they do show you a list of job that you can choose. To be frank they are not high profile jobs because you are not a citizen yet but you can make a switch to an officer level once you get you citizenship and security clearance.

They wont deploy you right after your training. But there could be a possibility if you are in Army you have to serve where your unit is stationed it could be US, Germany, Italy, Korea, Iraq etc. Risk is not where you are deployed . Risk is what job you are doing. It depends what you choose. Lets say if you are a Mechanic or cook, you could be station to Iraq at their base camp which is far far away from the battle field. And you would be doing your job there. But if you are in Combat, or infantary then you will go to the fields.

Lot of people think that they will be sent to Iraq or Afganistan to fight but that is not the case. US Army train people to adjust in that environment. You should be in the Army for enough time to handle that stress. What good you will do if they send you right after your 9 weeks basic training. They dont want to waste their money and time.

But in future after 1-2 years it could be a possiblity that you may get stationed in unstable countries but again if you job is support or administrative you will be statying at the station.

Thanks for sharing this. What is involved in the recruitment process? Can you please explain from where you started up to this point? Where can I get more information on the web including the language skills they are looking for?

I put my information online in Feb 09 when I first heard abt this program and did receive some calls in Mar but after that nothing happened. I pretty much read all the forums did not find any details about the battalion who is hiring MAVNI applicants.

Then one of my friend told me about a recruiter and I got his number and mentioned that my friend gave you his number and talked to him. He asked me to mail copy of my degree, transcripts, SSN, DL, I-94 for department of homeland security approval.

Meanwhile I met him once personaly in LA. It took 2days for my DHS approval and then I went there for 3 days for language test, physical and ASVAB test. Once you clear all those they will show you the list of job that you are eligible. select the job, sign the contract and take the oath.

That is all. I cannot put the recruiter phone number on the forum. Because I have his cell number and I dont want to advertise. But if you are really interested I can help you either give your number to him or his number to you. Send me a private message. I want to help others because I received a help from this forum

while I was ready some threads regarding MAVNI some people were posting their own opinion instead of the reality. That is why I started this thread and I want to help those who wants to knw the reality and make a decision. Let me know if you are interested and pursue this option.

Good Luck!

I had 15-20 jobs available to me. ALL 91 and 92 MOS. And combat engineer, Medic, Infantary etc. I chose from 91 MOS. Search for MOS descriptions online. You may get any MOS that does not require a security clearance.

Default Linguist Specialst?? No Way!

Finally I decided to quit this pilot program.

I had been communicating with an Army Recruiter in CA who said that they can take care of MAVNI Program for a month or so. Suddenly my file was transferred to another station. Until now I had no idea what was going on. I asked why and nobody reponded me, even the Commender who is in charge of the whole Southern CA. I guess this is why so many people adviced me to be careful when they knew I am interested in joining the Army.

Acoording to what I was told by another Commander in LA area who I believe is honest, I would like to warn those who are interestedof the Linguist Program (I don't know anything about the medical parts):

(1) There is no such thing to be enlisted as a Linguist. The US has their own Linguist Program and all of the MAVNI enlistees will be assigned or choose MOS based on the ASVAB score. Nobody will be a Linguist via this pilot program (They confirmed this several times)!

(2) For those who have bachelor degree or above, you will be an officer ONLY when you are younger than 29 years old limit. If you are 28 years old in 2009, and you get your citizenship in 2010, then you are no longer eligable to be an officer.

(3) Every enlistee through this program will definitely be deployed to the war, no matter what. Nuless you and your family are ready for this.

When I was told the truth by this Commender, I was stuned for a while and felt like being cheated. My suggest is that do not believe everything the recruiters say. Ask them to put promises in words by writing. This is an advice that an Navy Attorney offered. Good luck, folks! Citizenship is attractive, but nothing is free ...

It feel bad that you quit the program. Only point 1 is correct out of your three points that you made about this program.

2. Incorrect. There are several officer schools that you can join. THere is only one school that requires you to be high school graduate and unmarried. Rest all officer schools are open for all the enlistees who are in between 18-41 years old. Check on the Army website or grab a book from a local library.

3. Incorrect. Deployment will depend on the Job you picked up. Please read my initial post on this thread.

I think one should make statement with some facts. You said in your post that one should have this in written. Can you provide any facts or information other than your commander? Also, based on my research and my personal experience. Army Recruiter's main job is to get you in the army by any means. So they will not tell you that you will be deployed for sure. Because that will discourage you not to join. So I am little suspicious about your source.

Again I am not saying that there wont be risk of deployment but the risk is associated with the MOS not with the deployment. Whole thought of joining army is risky. In that case it is a personal choice whether to go or not.

Default MAVNI Program

Well, I just posted what I experienced communicating with recruiters that I talked to. I expected Army recruiters to be honest and did not want any recruitee to be cheated. Of course, I can post names of those officers or station commanders who I talked to, but it is not worthwhile.

I am so glad that I quit and feel bad to those who don't know the truth and still be fooled. Also it does not make sense that I would not post the facts here. So I would not waste my time with you any more, MAVNINoice. God bless those who are interested in this program.

Please clarify?

Also why can't they put all the promises on paper in writing. Without being put in writing people will suspect.

And what is the incentive for Army recruiter when he enlists people? Do they get special benefits or extra money per new candidate?
