Default Emergency Travel to India

I am on Advance Parole. I have to go to India on Emergency Travel. What are the documents that are required to carry? What is the situation of Port of entry while coming back ? Are they asking many question?

I travelled to Canada with my family during first week of this month and used EAD/AP card for the first time. There is a pre-clearance post available between Canada and USA. I travelled to Calgary,CA. I gave passport and combo card to the customs and border security. Then I was told to go to secondary inspection. Basically immigration check was over before boarding.

I never travelled to India with combo card. There should not be any issues.

The officer at the secondary inspection just asked SSN to verify the combo card.

You carry each and every document that you usually carry for H1B stamping along with your EAD/AP card...thats what I did.

My wife has used AP to travel at least 5 times - the most recent entry being two weeks ago.
Her port of entry was IAD ( Washington DC )
Though she carries all her papers - she has never been asked for anything other than her Advance Parole. She has never been asked many questions - other than casual ones like how long have you been on vacation ? It seems that this time the officer asked her when she had applied for green card and when he heard that we were waiting since 2007 he was very sympathetic.

For the past couple of times the wait at the secondary inspection has been for more than 1 1/2 hrs.
Though once her papers are picked it does not take more than a couple of minutes to finish.

Default Emergency Travel to india

I wanted to share my experience with emergency travel to india.

Applied for advance parole in the month of Dec 2015. I got a call about unexpected death news of my dad in Jan. Here is what I did to get the AP

1) Received a call on weekend from my family in India so I wasn't able to do nothing. I did send an email to USCIS local senator(TN) and house representative.

2) Called USCIS call center on Monday explaining my situation. They opened a case with USCIS next level of support. I also called local US senator and house representative but no luck in escalating the case. Same day I got an email from the officer asking to produce an evidence for emergency travel.

3) I decided to take an info-pass appointment since USCIS might have taken 3 to 4 days for delivering AP after receiving evidence. Got an info-pass appointment next day.

4) In between I had to call my family in India for death certificate. I was told that death certificate would be available only after 21 days which was unrealistic. After multiple request municipal corporation provided a document on which it was mentioned my dad's death was on so so date.

5) I got the scan copy of the document Monday night itself. Tuesday morning I went to local USCIS office(Memphis TN). I explained officer my situation with evidence. Officer took 30 mins and provided AP without asking any questions.

6) Officer did not ask for travel tickets either. I got AP for an year for me and my spouse. Officer didn't even ask for USCIS fees since he looked in the system and saw my previous AP request which was filed in the month of December. He said you don't have to pay twice for AP.

I really wish this kind of situation doesn't occur with anyone else.
