You may be right, I am sorely out of Indian politics. BTW who is Pratibha Patil.(some background)

Never mind she is on Wiki.

Amazing woman. I am always impressed that most of our politicians from that era were so qualified.

But now all you need is muscle power to lead the country.(i am referring to 80% MLAs and MP's who barely entered colleges)

Default East Vs West

Talking of underdeveloped Eastren countries, India had a Woman PM and might end up having a Woman President soon...In fact Women have held office in all of Indian subcontinent region, Viz, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh & even Pakistan.

Now, I am weak in counting..How many Woman presidents have been there in US?? How many African American???

US has been a democracy way before Indias first war of Indepencence..Talk of oppression!!

When I talk to locals - my friends who are American citizens, they say America is not prepared for a woman president or a African American pressident - it is a big joke. This shows how insecure these people are.

I am personally for Hillary or Obama. I definitely want to see a change here. American must wake up from its old ways of doing things and come into reality that world is changing and demographic change must be accepted

Women could not even vote in the US for almost 200 years after their independence. Indian women could vote from the very first election after our independence. Talk about empowerement of women in the US!

The last I heard, many people in the US would not vote for Hillary, just becase she is a woman. The US is a very long way off from true women empowerment. The fact that H4B can not work, is only a demonstration of such prejudice against women.

August 26, 1920: The 19th Amendment is quietly signed into law by Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby, granting women the right to vote.

Default Here are some reasons for allowing H4Bs to work

Some time back, I had created some valid reasons for allowing H4Bs to work in the US.

1. They are here legally.
2. L4 and J4 can work. It does not make to sense to restrict only H4 from working.
3. Most of the H4 people are women. It would empower the woman, if they can earn money.
4. Highly qualified.
5. Economy would improve.
6. Would prevent high qualified spouces to return to their mother country.
7. Would encourage the family to invest their money in the US.

Cheers,

On the other hand, I don't really see any major faults in this article. Other than some facts that are not expressed very precisely, there is nothing absolutely wrong.

<<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1730 -- 7/18/2007 >>>>>

In the recent newsletter titled "H-1Bs take to the streets to protest" I
discussed a protest that was carried out by a bunch of angry H-1Bs in San
Jose. That story is only the tip of the iceberg however -- H-1Bs and some
large law firms are filing a barrage of lawsuits over the same issue.

In summary, the State Department announced that new applications for green
cards would be accepted in early July, but soon afterwards the USCIS
announced that they would no longer accept applications for green cards.
The USCIS rejected the applications saying the yearly limit of 140,000
employment-based green cards been met. It's tough to say what is really
going on, but one thing for sure is that there is a huge backlog of visas
waiting to be approved.

Nothing in the articles I have seen mentioned security delays for
background checks, but that is one of the factors causing the backlogs. I
discussed that problem in detail in "Terrorist doctors, No. 1724 --
7/07/2007".

There are at least two lawsuits being filed. One is by Gabriela Ptasinska,
an H-1B from Poland, and the other is a class action lawsuit that is being
funded by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

These protests and law suits are much to do about nothing. The H-1Bs that
are here aren't going to be deported if there are delays getting their
green cards. H-1B visa holders can stay in the U.S. as long as they need to
if they have filed for a green card. That provision was instituted by
President Bush and is called the "7th Year Extension".

H-1Bs are mad as hell, but only because they don't want to wait a few more
months for their green cards. There are other reasons to, like for instance
getting green cards allows family members to get jobs. Remember that
families of H-1Bs often can't get authorization to work in the U.S. Of
course that means more workers will be dumped into our labor market.

Elayedath scrambled to arrange the necessary medical exams, get his
parents and in-laws in India to FedEx documents and work with his
attorney to fill out mounds of paperwork. Getting his green card
meant his wife could finally get a job, he said, and they would
have some security in deciding such matters as whether to start
a family.

Don't get confused by thinking this is some kind of women's rights issue.
Most Indian wives must give their paychecks to their husbands. Handing out
green cards isn't going to help to liberate women that are brought here as
wives from backwards countries like India. Read this for more info:

Because they do not want competition!!!. They want immigrant women to stay at home so that they are always dependent on their husbands which contradicts the job destruction article that Asian cultures are demanding on the women.

Looks whose talking about Women's emancipation..US is a country where it is most difficult to get a Women elected leader - President.
We will see Hillary's fate soon..although she seems to be th emost intelligent of the lot...she will never get the votes to be president...or Democratic party's Pres candidate....conservatives galore

However, Country's like INDIA....have already had a Lady Prime MInister 30 years back...Go figure.!!

I was listening to a radio talk show on Blumberg radio the other day and they had a eminent British economist who has written a book called " Immigrants- Your country needs them". And one topic discussed was the attitude of Americans towards immigrants. He was giving anecdotal evidence of how the current crop of Latino and Asian immigrants and stereotyped no differently than the past. When the Irish immigrants first started streaming in about 150yrs back, Americans did not want them as they felt the Irish were "Drunks, rouges and lazy bums". When the Italians started arriving 100yrs ago they were called "non English speaking gangsters". Now the descendents of these same people are stereotyping us new immigrants.

Maybe in another 100 yrs our descendents will be stereotyping true "Aliens" (inter galactic) as having one eye, cone head or three hands and eight legs!!! lol
