Default Watch CNN.com Right Now

Something is happening on Hill. One more enforcement only bill in Senate. Its on CNN LIVE VIDEO. All senators are talking about not giving drivers license, not allowing to open bank accounts etc.
Well it is our friend from Alabama: - "individual bill is a right approach this year."

Default Watch it if you can. It is interesting

Our friend from AL: - "interested in SAVE act". He wants to see it move in House.
Looks like there would be some debate. This way or that.
All the talk about Illegals. So nothing that they discuss apply to us. Though I missed something, they are not saying a word against us.

They have a provision for deporting legal (and illegal) immigrants on their first DUI conviction. Seems to me they are now serious about creating an officialy declared permanent underclass in this country. The house Democrats are also singing the same chorus. I just can't believe that these are the same Democrats who we thought will replace the Republican Congress on the Hill and legalize every immigrants in this country. There were very few on this forum who thoght otherwise during 2006-CIR failure in the Republican congress.

our friends at numbers usa have this on their homepage

New Senate GOP Immigration Package in the Offing
(March 5) At 11:30 a.m. this morning, a group of Republican senators will hold a press conference to showcase a package of 10-15 bills designed to make critical improvements to America’s immigration system.

Each bill in the package is expected to represent a specific step toward securing America’s borders; increasing enforcement at the workplace; or restoring law and order to our nation’s broken immigration system. The package is also expected to illustrate achievable, "bite-sized" steps that Congress – working in a bipartisan manner – should be able to accomplish between now and November.

Many of the ideas contained in the forthcoming bills have already passed the Senate or been voted on before, but have yet to become law.

The coalition, led by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), will call for full Senate consideration on each of the 10-15 bills as amendments to any legislative vehicle deemed appropriate by Senate Republicans this year

Default don't worry

I'm assuming you are Indian like most of us on this site. remember THIS country would be in big trouble with Indians working in all kinds of institutions working in the sciences and IT. The whole country would go down the pan. I work for an IT recruitment firm, 80% of our employees that are out on assignment are Indian and i think the govenment knows that..

Some details are available here -

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...ig0304-ON.html

Proposed measures -

A bill by Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., who is leading the effort, would impose a maximum two-year jail sentence on someone caught crossing the border for a second time.

Other bills in the package would:

Block federal funding from cities that bar their police from asking about immigration status.

Give the Department of Homeland Security the authority to use information from the Social Security Administration to target illegal immigrants.

Require construction of 700 miles of fencing along the Southern border, not including vehicle barriers.

Impose sanctions on countries that refuse to repatriate their citizens.

Deport any immigrant, legal or illegal, for one drunken-driving conviction.

Enable local and state police to enforce federal immigration laws

Default Election year politics

This is a classic example of election year posturing where republicans want to look tough on immigration. This bill will head straight down the trash.

with Hillary winning Texas on the back of Lations and McCain finalizing the nomination, logic says stupidity like this would hurt the GOP. Siskind floated a scenario like that earlier, but if it's supposed to hurt the GOP, why wouldn't the GOP leadership reign in Sessions et. al.? Maybe I am over-analyzing but I saw this a couple of days ago on how Dem leaders may want to go anti also: http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/sh...postcount=2049

oh BTW I agree w/ you that this is going down the drain.
