the only hope is the CIR. This is what failed in 2007

Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
S.1639 would eliminate the employer-sponsored component of the immigration system and replace it with a point-based "merit" system. Points would be awarded by the USCIS adjudicating officers for a combination of education, job skills, family connections and English proficiency. Sponsorship of a U.S. employer would not be required although additional points would be awarded if a U.S. job offer was available. The labor certification process would also be eliminated. Several family-based immigration categories would also be folded into the point system. Points-based systems are already used for admitting skilled immigrants in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and other developed countries.
If we have this, Most of us will be through.

Point based system will not pass the congress as most of the Democrats' vote bank will have "ZERO" points.

How exactly....the point allocation will be tailor made to give max points for GED or high school and decline with higher education.

The most important one should be to eliminate the wait for those legally and give them a path to citizenship or GC. H4 work visa is probably the least of the worries IMO.

This discussion is diverting from the original topic. We should stay focus on HR3012. I would request to open a different thread for any other discussion. So when do we expect HR 3012 to be discussed in Senate again? The senate session has begun isnt it? Please let us know

Greatly appreciate it if you could spread the word out and sign it.

For signing it please click on the link below, it will take you to the petition page on the White-house.gov web page, there if you do not already have an account please create one ( a very simple process of just signing up for free) and then sign the petition.

I guess HR3012 is first, which is currently low hanging fruit. CIR is miles away.

You are correct. HR3012 and work permit to H4 visa are the first two items in Obama's List.

@Jetflyer & Spice_guy if HR3012 is on the top list then why is Obama talking only about Illegal immigration and no word about HR3012??
Work visa for H4 is not even on the table to my knowledge, I might be wrong. You guys are more senior plz put some more light on this 2 things. Thanks in advance....

When it comes to immigration, Obamas first priority is to get citizenship to millions of Hispanics and lock their their descendants votes for democratic party for years to come.

He may not even know about HR-3012 :-)
Sad but this is the reality guys.

Politics is not about doing the right things but about the rights things to get votes.

Its not top priority for Obama. Its top priority for us. We need to work towards bringing it to the top. If we put any amount of diverted effort on CIR at this point, its fruitless, as CIR is a massive beast and takes more than a year to at least settle, while HR 3012 is close to the finish line (so far yet, though).

That is correct and every election cycle the Hispanic vote will keep increasing. Even GOP and its talking heads at Fox News realised that without Hispanic votes white house will get more and more out of reach given the electroral college math.

But once the CIR stampede starts, HR3012 and other allied bills would have trouble with visibility. The whole definition of skilled immigrants will change to exclude H1B.

Reality is, soon the focus will be on 2014 election and followed by GOP push to take WH in 2016 with help of some Hispanic Votes. Dream Act and CIR is a must for this !
