Default Merit based system: 10 points for sibling

Merit based system ill award 10 points for being a sibling - so just curious to know..

"SIBLINGS AND MARRIED SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF CITIZENS.—An alien who is the sibling of a citizen of the United States" Query to fellow IVs: Is parent of US child considered sibling under immigration law?

Query to fellow IVs: Is a parent of a US citizen considered a sibling per immigration law? Per wiki, seems it is brother/sisters only..

How can a 'parent' be considered a 'sibling'?

means being a parent gets no point in the new MERIT system but being a brother and sister does.. interesting...

To get points seems like the language must be amended from 'sibling' to 'immediate relative'

They are doing this to discourage immigration of parents (who would be old) and encourage immigration of siblings who are young and can contribute to the economy.

They cannot stop an "old" parent - as they are will immigrate under "immediate relative" category like spouses if child is above 21 years.

Infact this provision is doing opposite to what you think(keep old out). It will bring "only" old parents when child is 21 and keep out young. Seems like they want old parents only who cannot work, and not young who would..opposite of what you just said.
