Action Item - Seeking support for Warren Amendment #1532

Dear Friends,

Once in a lifetime we all get an opportunity to make a difference in our lives and the lives of the entire generation. Starting Monday (24th June), Senate plans to move to the final stage of the immigration reform bill. However, as Senators deliberate and vote on the immigration reform, it’s our turn to do our share and make the difference.

I know it feels like there is no end in sight to the ordeal and painful waits. But there is light at the long tunnel, and we are now closer than ever before, to get our fixes done by Congress.

Immigration Reform has many of our provisions. And, we are pleased to share that Senator Warren has introduced the amendment #1532 to fix four (4) of the key issues already not already addressed in the bill. We applaud Senator Warren for her leadership. Here is the summary of Warren Amendment #1532 -

a.) Requiring employers to sharing green card, H1 & L1 visa paperwork and approvals with employees – This will help prevent abuses in the system as immigrant employees will not be beholden to the employer.

b.) Fix for removal of per country effective date

c.) Clarify job mobility for immigrants after filing adjustment of status - This will allow some job mobility to free up skilled immigrant labor force

d.) Fix for STEM definition to include backlogged applicants, increasing from current limit of 5 years in the bill to 10 years. This will allow backlogged STEM applicants not to be left out.

We want Congress to take action on Warren Amendment #1532. This will be possible only if you call Senate offices registering your support for Warren Amendment #1532.

ACTION ITEMS:

1.) Please send Message to your Senator supporting Warren Amendment #1532 – Click here

2.) Contribute to Immigration Voice at – Click here

3.) Tell your friends and request them to participate and do their share in supporting Warren Amendment

4.) Call each Senate office every day of this week -

After making each phone call (as per instructions below), complete this Phone Call AI Feedback Form to help us keep track of progress.

For maximum affect, when you call, here is the message you need to relay to the Senate offices. When you call, ask to speak with someone who deals with judiciary and immigration issues and give them the following message. If you are unable to speak with immigration staff, just deliver the message to the person who picks up the phone.

Quote:

• Hi, my name is ________ and I’m a member of Immigration Voice. I live in _________.
• I am calling in to Thank the Senator for supporting Immigration bill.
• I want to request the Senator to support and vote for Senator Warren’s amendment #1532 which provides relief to high-skilled immigrants. Thank you.
• Do you know what Senator’s position is on this amendment?
• I would really appreciate Senator to support Warren Amendment #1532, please tell this to the Senator.

If asked, what is Amendment #1532, you could say that -

Quote:

• Senator Warren's Amendment #1532 provide immigrants with access to their immigration paperwork.
• Currently, all other categories of immigrants have access to their immigration paperwork. Without access to immigration paperwork, skilled immigrants cannot get driver's license, sign lease of mortgage, get car loan, admit child to school or even change jobs.
• Patriot Act requires skilled immigrants to carry their immigration paperwork, how can people carry their paperwork if they don't have it.
• Which is why Warren Amendment #1532 is a common sense fix

In case you are told to call Senator of your State, based on which State you are calling, you could say that –
Quote:

• I’ve many close friends in ______ State
• And Immigration is a national issue and Senator _________'s vote will be of national significance, which is why I am calling to request the Senator to support this bill and Senator Warren’s amendment #1532

It will take -1-2 minutes of your time to make each phone call every day this week. Here are the phone numbers of all Senate offices per State. Please call each Senate office every day of this week

Calling preference to 'NAY's senators

Hello

I am thinking that we should target senators who are generally saying Nos to the most amendments. My guess is mostly all Dem will agree, we should be more focused on GOPs.

Also, admin, moderator like someone suggested, please put action item on the homepage

Thanks

shortduck 06-24-2013 12:38 PM

I am thinking the snail mail will reach after the amendment is voted ?

Right now, there is a vote going on in the Senate Floor, on a particular amendment.

Guys,

You got to trust us. We are going to get it done if everyone is doing their share. There is lot of negotiation going on in the back-end. Please stick to the plan, do your share, others (people you don't know) are doing their share, and we are confident that it will all fit in the end. Only small set of information is available in public domain. And we cannot share all information in the public domain without violating the trust of our friends, which we cannot afford. It is possible that Warren amendment may not be voted separately, but is included in another amendment. So You have nothing to lose, please trust the action item and do your share.

Please continue making phone calls and sending messages. We will WIN!

Thank You!

GCOP 06-24-2013 02:38 PM
