When do you anticipate this to come for voting?

As constituent's we have more influence (and respect) than lobbyists. Everyone knows lobbyists have sold their souls to sell something they don't necessarily believe in - but when we go to DC, people realize that we have taken time off work, paid our own way to come down to DC, they respect that and want to hear what we want to say. If someone from (say) Alaska, Montana, the Dakota's flies down to a lobby day - I guarantee you we will get a meeting with all Congressmen and Senators in the state (not just their offices).

We can't donate money though, since it is illegal - everything else is fair game (and we do it).
Thanks for your reply Hil. That clarifies things, I am from Michigan and have joined the local state chapter on facebook. Let me know how I can help the cause. Do we have any periodic meetings within by chapters that I could attend?

The reason is employees do not have right to choose their own lawyers even they dislike company's lawyers. So employees have only choice that is to process gc thro that company or leave. Leaving the company delay the green card process unless they act quickly. I am seeing that many from India wants to come here at any cost and suffering. Employees could choose companies similarly companies also could choose employees. H1B cap,GC cap and other restrictions are limiting the choices for employees at the same time companies have the more flexibility

Default No of CoSponsors increased to 57

Wow. The number of CoSponsors have increased to 57 for HR 213. I bet this is because of the latest advocacy event organized by IV.
I hope they get this to floor soon.

Guys,

Is there anything we can do to push this for a vote? I am calling my representatives, but I am getting non committal responses.

Can we get Speaker Boehner to get this bill to vote ?

If you live in Boehner's district, you can definitely go to the district office and ask. As a constituent, it is your right.

The rest of us have to go through our Representative. Your Representative will not spend political capital and ask for anything without getting credit for doing it. The only way your Rep can claim credit for doing 213 is by being a sponsor of 213.

That is why we ask for co-sponsorship. I hope you now have a better idea about how things work.

Having worked with many people across the country in doing local meetings, the best model do meetings is the following:

1. Join the appropriate state chapter on FB.
2. Setup a meeting at the district office between one and two weeks from the day you decide to do the meeting.
3. Loudly announce on the forums and FB state chapter group that you have a meeting on such and such a date. Ask for people to join you and experienced IV members to connect with you, give you handouts, talking points etc.
4. If no one joins you, it's ok, go by yourself, it's not the worst thing in the world. If you don't get the support you need from IV (documents/talking points etc), please feel free to be obnoxious and berate us every day in the State Chapters and publicly on the forums. We don't mind obnoxious people who produce results. We all are desperate people who work very hard on this and are obnoxious ourselves. We don't mind obnoxious who are willing to work hard - infact we like all people that work hard - especially the obnoxious ones because they work the hardest.

Post What is a "co sponsor"?

If I look at the thread, it looks like being a "cosponsor" on a bill is different than merely voting for a bill when it comes the floor of the house. How can I ask my congressman in my district to be a cosponsor on the bill? I.e. What are the set of steps they need to take in order to be a cosponsor?

The main hurdle is convincing the office. Once they are convinced, all they have to do is send Chaffetz an email and sign some documents Chaffetz office sends them.

We have very effective talking points and literature that wil get the job done.
