Default CA team meets 3 Congressmen at Oakland town meeting

Posting for pdakwala:

The forum started exatly 9.00 p.m. There were 5 people in the immigration forum: 4 are lawmakers and 1 is the representative from International Institute of East Bay.

1. Sheela Jackson Lee
2. Al Green
3. Luis V. Gutierrez
4. Michael m. Honda
5. Herb Castillo

All of them have said about the illegal immigraiion and letting them to file to permanent citizen. They are also saying that border enforcement is needed but hard working people should not be made scapegoat. There are two following bogus argument that they are making to support their stand on legalizing the illegal immigrants.

1. Current government is outsourcing jobs to other countries.
2. People coming on H-1B are driving the wages down.

When I asked the question in the QA section: "All of you (Congressman in panel) are talking about the Comprehensive Immigration Reform that includes border enforcement and guest worker program for undocument workers. The situation for skilled immigrants who have come here on legal document are facing major problem of Retrogression. USCIS is not accepting their application because of huge application backlog. There are around 900k application backlog. The skilled immigrants are not allowed to file to adjust their status. Why are you not talking about the legal immigration.

Reply from Mike Honda in the open forum was related to the family based immigration and said that they are working on that. We understand that family based immigration are not able to come close and stay together because of of huge backlog.

When we met Mike honda after the forum his reply was different. We handed our brochure and told him that we are talking about the legal immigrants who have come here on legal documents and have applied for Green Card through employment. He said that he is aware of the problem. He said that we know that the labor backlog has not been cleared. We are in touch with them and we are told by the labor department
that it will take around 1 to 1 and half year to clear the backlogs. He also said that people coming on H-1B are facing problem and we should address it too as an part of comprehensive immigration reforms. He asked me to get in touch with his staff and provide more information.

We were also able to talk to Barbara Lee and she have asked to get in touch with her in her office since she cannot talk to us in detail about the immigration.

We are also in touch with the press reporter from Contra Costa Times. One individual from CA team is going to get in touch with Contra Costa Times and one individual will try to contact San Jose Mercury news.
