Thumbs up Intel CEO's views on legal immigration and America's competitiveness

Craig Barrett, CEO Intel, talks about how US needs to tap the foreign born engineers/scientists to maintain its competitive edge

An excerpt of his article can be found here https://registration.ft.com/registra...0779e2340.html

He also will answer questions related to this article on Feb 7th. Readers can send him their questions. Details can be found at the following link http://news.ft.com/cms/s/cc12e106-91...0779e2340.html

Excerpt

America is experiencing a profound immigration crisis but it is not about the 11m illegal immigrants currently exciting the press and politicians in Washington. The real crisis is that the US is closing its doors to immigrants with degrees in science, maths and engineering the "best and brightest" from around the world who flock to the country for its educational and employment opportunities. These foreign-born knowledge workers are critically important to maintaining America's technological competitiveness.

This is not a new issue; the US has been partially dependent on foreign scientists and engineers to establish and maintain its technological leadership for several decades. After the second world war, an influx of German engineers bolstered our efforts in aviation and space research. During the 1960s and 1970s, a brain drain from western Europe supplemented our own production of talent. In the 1980s and 1990s, our ranks of scientists and engineers were swelled by Asian immigrants who came to study in our universities, then stayed to pursue professional careers.....

I just spoke with Chris Nutall of FT who did the interview with Craig Barrett. I've also forwarded Berkeleybee's newest IV ppt and the IV flyer to him.

Default Thanks BlueKayal

Thanks for the pro-active work Blue Kayal. Your work is appreciated.

Others:

And if you are reading the posts on this website and silently observing the hard work and praying for our success while not joining or volunteering...here is my advise to you:

"SHAME ON YOU. We dont need your prayers. We need your participation."

Dont think for one second that "others will work hard towards eliminating retrogression and the law is same for everyone, so I will benefit too".

That is the attitude that basically makes all the difference between success and failure. By saving $100 you wont built a Taj Mahal. But by contributing here, you will make a difference and many such contributions will have consequences.

And remember, this is not the Satyagrah of Gandhiji. Silence is not golden. Not in USA. Not in 2006. Speak up or be silenced forever by the loonies of Numbersusa.com and FAIR. No one is going to reward silence and tolerance. No one. This is not how it works here.
