Smile My GC story

Came to the US - May 1999
First employer talked about starting GC process with RIR labor, that I foolishly declined - Oct 1999
Left first employer and joined second employer - July 2001.
First employer shut down - Dec 2001
Talked with manager about GC, 1 yr down the line
Layoffs in company, but I survived - June 2002
No GC filings done for another 6 months
Talked with manager, HR about GC again - Jan 2003
Reminded manager about GC process, did everything short of begging them to file the labor - Mar 2003
Bigger round of layoffs which I survived again - Jun 2003
One of my colleagues was laid off though. He found another job and filed for labor with consulting company. Labor cleared in 4-5 months.
Frustrated with company's bureaucracy and intransigence, but did nothing for another 4 months.
Started initiatives with above consulting company to file GC for future employment in parallel - Aug-Sep 2003
Started preparing to quit employer due to GC issue, waiting for H1 approval - Dec 2003
H1 approved, preparing to notify employer - Dec 2003
Got email suggesting readiness of current employer to file for GC - Dec 2003
Meeting with HR, company attorney - Jan 2004
Reconsidered decision to quit since employer bears the cost of the GC process, my second foolish mistake (in hindsight). EB3 dates were current from 2000 to 2004.
Labor filed with the DOL, regular non-RIR category - Mar 2004
Transferred to rotten BEC - Apr 2005
Approved after a hopeless wait of 3 yrs, 3 months - Jul 2007
Got lucky with the priority dates decision reversal, and filed concurrently - Aug 2007.
Received I485/EAD/AP receipt notices - Oct 2007
Got EAD in the mail - Oct 2007
Fingerprinting done - Nov 2007
AP received - Nov 2007
Got H1 10th year extension approval as backup - Jun 2008
2 yr EAD received - Aug 2008
Writing this story - Sep 2008

But for my two foolish mistakes - 1999 and 2004, I should've been green by now. As they say hindsight is always 20-20 and you never know the implications of the wrong decisions until it is too late to do anything about it.

Anyway good luck to all folks waiting (in all EB categories be it 1,2,3 or otherwise)

I came to US without any goals in 1996, started working in 1999
applied for GC in 2000, company screwed me in terms of labor and GC and got laid off in 2001 (dot com bankrupcy). Waiting since then with a PD of mid 2002. Took part in all IV related activities till the EB2 Vs EB3 nonsense started.
OK Now you are the grand father of all in the Q. Are there any one who has still an older PD?

Default 10 years 1 month and waiting....

Came to US Aug 1998.
First Labor Jan2003
Second Labor Jan 2005
PERM OCT 2006...=>PD.
Got laid off from one job and other I quit myself. Some people argue that I am waiting for only last 2 years since PD is Oct 2006.
July 07 Filer...Thanks to IV otherwise my 485 would still be not in.

I do have 4yr Bachelor from India and MS from US and currently pursuing EMBA (ivy league)...so life never stops in US... I only hope USCIS could do a better job on maintaining proper FIFO based on PD.

Default Aug 1997

I came in Aug 1997. 11 Years 1 month later still waiting on.
Came in 97, did M.S until 99.
My first employer was ready to file in 1999. But I had other plans,
I moved to another Company in 2000 and got laid off early 2001.
Joined Company C in 2001, All my companies are under Fortune 50. Big Bureaucracy, they took one year to start, Labour filed in 2002, refiled again in 2003(lawyer did some mistakes), still waiting, Had 2 kids in between, my son is getting close to 6 years,
People who started political careers in 1997 are running for presidents(obama, palin, edwards). 11 Years is a long time, long time enough for a rookie to become president, Billion people in the world died since then, another billion people are born, new countries created, still waiting for green card. I would say the process if foolish.
If I had my green card in 1998, I would have been more useful to my country(USA). I lost all my youth in pursuit of Green Card.
