EB-3 retrogression for ROW

Hi, I am planning to talk to my employer about them sponsoring me for a green card. I am from ROW (Middle East), and I am wondering:

1) would there be EB-3 retrogression for me?
2) around how long should I expect to wait if there is EB-3 retrogression?

I have heard that there is a backlog of visa numbers for EVERYONE in EB-3... is this true?

Thank you. By the way, I discovered this site today, and it's great!!!!

Depends...

It may take a while for your LCA to go through, although I'm certain it is better now than when I went through (it took two years for mine!) so it is possible that they may take care of the retrogression mess (don't hold your breath) before you have a chance to experience it?! The date your LCA is filed becomes your "Priority Date" (PD) and right now, I believe the EB-3 retrogression goes back to PD's of April, 2002 for ROW, but don't quote me, though, Google "Visa Bulletin" and check there.:(

Oh and welcome to IV - you'll find this is the best place to keep informed.

Hi Seba, welcome.

I think most PERM apps are being processed in 30 - 60 days, so labor certification is no longer a bottleneck. Unfortunately, EB-3 ROW is badly retrogressed, and this would effect you as well. As a previous poster mentioned, the priority data is currently August 2002. However the priority date has also not moved forward in months, which means folks are having to wait even longer.

Without immigration reform from congress, expect a wait of at least 5 years, and probably longer, for your green card.

(sorry)

EB-3 retrogression for ROW

It depends on which country you belongs to!

Thanks

All ROW is retrogressed

Well, it doesn't matter which country you belong to, if your GC is filed in EB3 category. From what I know, everyone in EB3 is retrogressed .Indian/Chinese have wait for 2 years longer than Rest of the World for EB3. So unless, a bill is passed in congress, it will take minimum 5 years for I-485 to be current. And then,God only knows, how long for I-1485 to be completed.
So,on average ~7 years wait.

I am EB-3 ROW (3 years and counting), looks like if CIR doesn't pass i have for another 1.5-2 more years.
I would recommend to file EB-2 if you have a masters degree and avoid the backlog.

To LENA and All--EB3 to EB2 thru Master's degree

Do you need a mAster's degree taken here in USA,or a masters degree taken out of USA would be sufficient for a conversion from EB3 to EB2.And, should it be a Masters in physical therapy , or any Master's degree, such as Master in Public Health, etc would be okay?:o

Thanks everyone for the replies

So I guess everyone in EB3 ROW should expect ~7 years to get GC. Well I did my bachelor's in the US and have been on H1B for almost 3 years now and will be extending a further 3 years soon. So I am trying to look ahead and consider my options regarding GC... but it looks like I should try to obtain EB2 status but then who knows if there will be retrogression for EB2 ROW at that point.

Thanks everyone for the replies... excellent site and community.

Again, it all depends on when Nov 04 becomes current for EB3 ROW (I'm assuming you are EB3). Its been stuck at Aug 02 for some time, and there is no accurate way to predict when late 04 will come around. If I had to guess (and my priority date for EB3 ROW is April 04), you'll be looking at 3 or 4 more years without legislation change
