Some other misconceptions are:
early walk in for FP will expedite EAD/AP process (biometrics are for 485/GC)
Green cards are issued based on Receipt date and not Priority date (USCIS pre-adjudicates cases based on RD but DOL issues visas (GCs) based on PDs and visa availability)

It is also worth to note that Prior to July 30 2007, I believe I-485 fee is $325, starting August 2007, the fee has been increased to $1010. So in order to avoid this new fee, a lot of people rushed to put the i-485 application(including us) and end up with paying application fees for EAD and AP for renewals.

I dont think the rush was to avoid the fee, the rush was due to the visa bulletin fiasco where USCIS has made every category current and everyone who had an approved labor could apply for AOS,

It would be interesting to hear from those among us who constantly renew the EADs whether they do pay any fee? Is there anybody who did it without any fee??

that too but I was specifically saying about I-485 old fee vs new. that time we didn't aware paying old fee would require you to pay for EAD and AP renewals.

I think we renewed EAD/AP 3 times sofar and we paid the fee everytime because our I-485 application was filled with old I-485 fee.

In that case I doubt that EAD renewals could be free for anybody just because they paid 1070 for 485. You paid less for 485 but you also did pay seperately for EAD right? The total fee you paid (485+EAD+AP) could be equal to 1070?

Default rules are clear and specific

USCIS rules are very specific and clear on this. Anybody who filed I-485 after July 30, 2007 should not have had to pay any kind of EAD/AP card renewal fee. If anyone has had to pay, please check the USCIS receipt notice for I-765 and/or I-131. It does mention the Fee and the amount which should be $0.00 in case of EAD/AP issue or renewal IF your I-485 was filed AFTER july 30, 2007.

Yes, we did pay for I-485(old fee) and EAD + AP. But if you filled I-485 with new fee you don't REQUIRE to pay for EAD and AP renewals.

bilu I understand what you say but my question is why EAD extensions are free only for those applying 485 after July 07? If it is increased fee for 485 then it does not make sense because prior to July 07 I think folks used to pay seperately for 485, EAD and AP right? So shouldn't they also get renewals free?? Total amount should be the same right? Anyway just curious why it became free after O7

The majority of "those who constantly renew their EADs" would have had to pay the renewal fees as they would have applied BEFORE July 30, 2007. Only those who applied I-485 after that date would be eligible to renew their EAD/AP without paying any fee.

Good luck finding logic in what they do. They just increased the I-485 fee to $1070 and eliminated any kind of fee for EAD/AP issue and renewal after July 30, 2007.

Looks like they have established that EAD / AP is a perk while applying for 485 just that you have to request it via separate application. With regards the fee everywhere in America the craze is for unlimited so unlimited extensions came for a higher fee, for some this turned out to be lesser money in the end. In all real life scenarios here as well sometimes having unlimited can be cheaper look at all phone companies.

My company paid more than $700 as USCIS fees for EAD/AP for myself and my wife.

Are there any Nov'11 filers still waiting for EAD/AP? Trying to find out how long it might take.
